Okay - color me uninformed, but what the hell is a "white hat special?" I assumed it meant a white vinyl top, but obviously that ain't so.  - dm

Basically it was a trim package for Dodge Division cars for the spring season.  Ford had Sprint and Sports Sprint Mustangs (remember them?), Chevy had something else (I can't recall what right now), Firebird had a Sprint package (typically on the I6) and Dodge had the WHS.  It was part of their Good Guys in the White Hats promotion.  You typically got a vinyl top in the package, but it could be ordered without also.  I have a WHS 1969 Charger 383-4bbl., automatic with air in T5......

konigcharger

did they give you a cowboy hat if you bought one?

If you have no vision or creative spirit, you can always fall back on the way the factory did it.

I don't know about every year but in 1967, yes, a white cowboy was frequently given away with the promotion.

whitehatspecial

I have a 1968 with a 41 code. White vinyl roof, wood-grained wheel, remote driver's mirror, hood mounted turn signal indicators, full wheel covers, and interior light package. I actually was at the dealer when the car was purchased by my mother, and I can not remember any white hat given to us (I would have gotten it). The promotion did feature the "Dodge Boys" and some hotties wearing hot pants and white hats though.

Cars owned:
1968 Dodge Charger, 48k orig. miles, family owned since new.
Not a Hemi, a mini-hemi 340.

Lord Warlock

Strange, I thought the white hat was a 69 option, not a 68 as well.  Even stranger, my car has everything included in the white hat special, but isn't coded for it.  I always thought it came out after my car was built which is why no code for it.  But based on what I've read in the white book and resto manual, mine has all the options included in a white hat, someone liked the look evidently.
