Anyone here from Northern ABALAMA?? We have been kicking around the idea of moving up there and would like some input from others in the area.  We are looking in and around Huntsville..

I was around there a few weeks ago.  It's very pretty.  I have to say I'm partial to southern Bama myself, but the whole state has a lot going for it for a certain demographic.

I live in North Alabama, I live about 50 miles west of Huntsville, though. A little city Called Lexington. I mean I love living here, but I guess I am Partial to it, because I have always lived here.  There isn't really that many great high paying jobs in This area, other than the paper mill or TVA, but looking around the cost of living isn't as high as most places. Be prepared for goofy weather though, it was Nice last Saturday, the hi was 73 and it was sunny almost like a beautiful spring day, man people were out wearing t shirts and shorts, I think the hi today was 48.  And around july/ august, the summer can be pretty brutal, with the hi humidity. I guess you can say there still that "southern hospitality" around. Well anyways, just thought I would write and tell you my experences about being an Alabamian...
Oh yeah, Bama just hired Nick Saban as the new coach.......................ROLL TIDE!!! LOL.

I live in Huntsville, Al.  Ask me all the questions you need to know :)

I do have to say, here in Alabama the weather is odd.  It can be 70 degrees one day then it will be 35 the next.

We also have a Mopar Club.  I run there website, you can check it out here:  http://tvmoparclub.com/  We're pretty active and usually have 2 or 3 things going on a month and have our big show in June (father's day weekend).

Yup,yup.. We were there last weekend. I thought I was in Florida with the warm weather. We left on Monday morning before the rain started.

We are looking around the Hartselle area. Nice area with plenty of acreage. People there were very nice as well.. I think our realtor said it is a DRY TOWN.. No BOOZE...   :o

My wife, younger daughter and I will be moving and I am sure my older daughter, her husband and son will be tagging along.

From what I understand the Huntsville area has many hi-tech businesses. Boeing, Mac-Douglas, NASA and many more including a Toyota plant. Also a very large military base. All within a half hour drive from Hartselle. My son in law will need a job STAT...

Also my younger daughter will be a senior next year and I want to make sure she goes to a great school. She is a 4.0 student..  We are so proud.....

We put on over 400 miles driving all over the area looking at houses over two days. Very tiring. I didn't see any bone yards anywhere..  :scared:

Traffic was an absolute breeze compared to here.. Beautiful scenery. Pretty good roads and great hi-ways.

We will be back up looking again soon.. ;)

I can't really inform you on the booze/dry county aspect, as I don't drink.  Huntsville is definately not dry though.

We do have many Hi-tech jobs.  I work on the Aresonal at one of the NASA buildings.  If your son-in-law has a great resume and has a great education, it shouldn't be that hard to find a job, they're building more offices in the Research Park area where many of the big business are, so there will be tons of job openings in the future.

As for a great school, I went to Butler, which...well wasn't all that great.  It's not bad, but not good either.  I think Bob Jones is a good school, it's located in Madison.  Grissom might be another.  You should probably research that yourself to get the best idea.

As for boneyards, that's tough luck.  Many of the big ones only have newer model cars.  You'll have to basically hunt in the boonies and find some cars in people's yards and ask them.  There is only one big junkyard that deals with strictly mopars - Stephen's Performance.  Ted Stevens is a nice guy, but his prices are very, very, VERY expensive.

Once you do decide for a home here, let me know and I'll welcome you to the Mopar club.  From there, you'll be able to find a lot more members that may have the pieces/parts you need at a much better rate.

I didn't know there were any dry towns anymore. ??? That's just odd, IMO.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Thanks Jud.  I did check out BOB JONES and it has very high ratings. They push technical studies there which I think is great.

What's the deal on bone yards?? I didn't even see one with newer cars.  :rotz:

My son in law works in the building industry. Though he wants to go back to school and become a fireman.. Maybe some of Ron rubbed off while he was here..  ;D  haha.....

Our realtor is located in Madison. We stayed at the Raddison while in town.. Nice place..  It must be off season for them as they gave us a hot tub suite for three nights at regular room rates.. The suite was allmost as big as my house.. :yesnod:

Hartselle is a nice city, I had some friends that use to live there. Thats about an hour drive from where I live. When I was talking about jobs earlier I was refering more toward the Western part of N Alabama, Huntsville does have alot of Plants to apply at.
