Drivers Title question - for Charger R/T in Sweden...

Hello,

photos now posted - see previous post.

Along with car I received a small document that I think is called "drivers title". There it mentions an owner of the car, and the date says late 1967.

How do these things work - just the first owner of the car is registered? Subsequent owners are registered or not in US - on this paper or somewhere else?

Would be fun to track this owner down - and see for how long he owned the car etc....

My first attempt through directory enquiries to find this person in Benicia CA failed - same name but different person unfortunately. There are 3 more with same name in CA - but I ´m not sure it is worth it....

Whats ´s the deal with these drivers titles?

Many thanks for any comment,

Martin

In Ohio you get a new title for each owner. The old title is given back to the state when a new one issued. I scanned my original Virginia title in to my computer as it shows what the mileage was when the previous owner purchased (only 4000 miles less) as well as when it was purchased (1985).   In Ohio all cars are titled, in some state old cars do not need titles to get plate on them. I hope I have helped some. I sent a car to Croatia for a friend a few months back and the US customs were most concerned with the title being notarized into his name (which we were able to do) when it got to customs in Croatia they seem to be more concernedabout Bill of Sale as I had to send him another document.

Martin, can you scan the title and post both sides, that will help a lot. If you don't want to list the VIN on line you could just block it out. Or tell us what state the title is from

In the state I live in, the front tell you who owned the car and registered the car so they could get a plate. Mean's make it legal to drive. On the back is where the owner could sell the car to some one else. They sign the back, and transfer the ownership to the buyer. Then the buyer could either take it to the state and a new tiltle made where name is on the front and get a plate, or they could sell the car to someone else. On my title there is 4 spots where the car could be sold before the back is full.

Ken sell's to Allen, Allen sell to Steve, Steve sell's to Dave, then Dave registered the car with the state, get a tiltle and get's plates and drives the car.

Hope this help's some.

As far as tracking down the orginal owner, well 38 years have passed. There is a good chances you could find the owner but people move and pass away as well.

Regarding drivers title - maybe someone can help?

It is a California Ownership Certificate.

And the way the seller that I (through swedish car import firm) bought it from, explained it all is that he thought the car had only had 2 previous owners.....

He had bought it earlier this year from California - from the guy on the certificate - a Ruben Oropeza, Benicia, CA

The Certificate was issued: 03/29/73 licence number 495 ODV

The piece of paper is about 3 inches by 3 inches - but seems to have been 3x6? Cause there are signs of "perforations" - and other (right) half is removed....

Maybe by customs - since it is stamped export approved....??

Anyway - besides his name and date - it says the cars VIN

Also says "date first sold 00/00/67"

"Yr model 68" "Type vehicle 120" and other stuff

Then there is Rubens signature under his name - and signed 2-15-05. Allegedly when he sold it to the person I bought it from.

Is it possible that he was the likely "third owner" - if Ruben bought it when issued in 1973? (if Ruben bought it from first owner that is - unlikely assumption but important if only one owner since 1973....)

Any opinions?
