What year 440 ? , you may have balancing issues as well if the 440 is a cast crank

Unless the 440 has a high rise intake on it, none of the linkage brackets need to be changed, though you will have to adjust them after installation.

As Chryco pointed out, you will need to determine if your 440 is externally balanced, and if so, you will need to use the torque converter that came on the 440, or have your 383 one counter weighted the same.

Runner. As far as I know, there was never a difference between the brackets used on the big blocks (same year application). I can't say that this is absolute fact, or that I have ever measured them, but I have done dozens and dozens of engine swaps between 383's and 440's - and later, 400's, and have never had a bracket problem, nor ever noticed any difference between them (again , same year applications). This is over a period of 35+ years.

The only time I have ever had to address bracket/linkage problems is with some aftermarket intakes that are taller/thicker (at the mounting surface) than stock, or when switching carbs. But even with that, the modification has always been a simple adjustment or slight bend (unless you are going to a tall Indy manifold, which requires tall aftermarket brackets, or cutting/welding of the stockers).

I would be interested in what problems you found. If you can post some pictures or other descriptions of the problems you encountered, It would be quite usefull.

If you have a/c the rear compressor brackets are different to account for the difference in deck heights. Using a 69 style setup the power steering brackets interchange, and the a/c version of the alternator brackets are supposedly different according to bpe.  If you have the later style kickdown linkage with a single rod between the carburetor and transmission lever, I think the 440 uses a different rod. You might be able to bend the 383 rod to fit. The earlier 3 piece rod will interchange if you have the 4 barrel version.

dont think i have pics,  but it was a 318 to 440 swap in a 69 b body. i have piles of lowdeck brackets so i figured id use them to save money. all the stuff i have is for the 71 style with  only1 rod that goes from the throttle bracket to the tranny not the one with the pivot poits like on the earier cars.  the rod was 2 short for a 440.  i did a 318-383 swap in my 68 satellite and that combo of parts worked fantastic.    also the 440 bracket really seemed to put the kickdown linkage at an odd angle at the carburator.  the reason i assumed they made different brackets is, ended up swaping it over to a lokar kickdown cable and an a.r.e.  bracket.  a.r.e. lists a different part number for the lowdeck than the rb. i wish i would have taken pictures becasue it defiantly was a pain until i just gave in and ordered all new parts.

you probably are  right on the bracket being the same  but im sure the rod from the tranny to the bracket ( on the 71 style) is different .

650 holley is too small.

It'll work and drive fine if that is all you have.  BUT a 750 or even an 850 holley is a better pick on a 440.

As for the brackets, I have learned to never say never.

The length of the kickdown pieces should be the only issue, but it never seems to be that easy.
