Suddenly, this excerpt came to mind there, Shakey...

Dakota tribal wisdom says that when you discover you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount. However, in business we often try other strategies with dead horses, including the following:

1. Buying a stronger whip.
2. Changing riders.
3. Say things like, "This is the way we have always ridden this horse."
4. Appointing a committee to study the horse.
5. Arranging to visit other sites to see how they ride dead horses.
6. Increasing the standards to ride dead horses.
7. Appointing a tiger team to revive the dead horse.
8. Creating a training session to increase our riding ability.
9. Comparing the state of dead horses in todays environment.
10. Change the requirements declaring that "This horse is not dead."
11. Hire contractors to ride the dead horse.
12. Harnessing several dead horses together for increased speed.
13. Declaring that "No horse is too dead to beat."
14. Providing additional funding to increase the horse's performance.
15. Do a Cost Analysis study to see if contractors can ride it cheaper.
16. Purchase a product to make dead horses run faster.
17. Declare the horse is "better, faster and cheaper" dead.
18. Form a quality circle to find uses for dead horses.
19. Revisit the performance requirements for horses.
20. Say this horse was procured with cost as an independent variable.
21. Promote the dead horse to a supervisory position.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but in some respects a discussion about dead horses will be about as productive.

We asked Chrysler's design chief Trevor Creed why they hadn't hidden the rear door handles like on an Alfa 156. He said it was a fussy thing to do (as in, too much trouble). He added that the market for five-seat four-doors is far bigger than for two-doors, and the priority was to maximise sales. No-one would have questioned the strategy if it had been called anything other than Charger. -- Top Gear

My alliegance is and always will be to the old stuff, but I've always thought the new "Charger" looks overall OK, I just take issue with it being called a Charger with 4 doors. Thats really the base for my dissapointment with it. Some of the styling is ok, I think it should have played alot more off of the older 2nd gen stuff. The new Challenger now, looks perfect for a new car! Just enough of the old classic style, with just enough new upgrades. I do like the wide big rear shoulders of the new Charger but the way it meshes into the rear of the car just isnt right. Overall, an ok looking car and its not a performance slouch,  but lets stop calling it a charger please.

Ahhh, now you are singing a different tune. The bottom line is, the guys on this site who have the blindfolds on (and you all know who you are), refuse to remember that these "badges" have been abused many times before 2005. I don't care if this is the only 4 door of the bunch, it's way better looking than the late 70's and early 80's Chargers....but that's just my opinion.

ps- The GTX was not a Chrysler done truck. It was an aftermarket deal.

pss- I'll bet It's killing all the die hards that this stupid poll is not a landslide.  :icon_smile_wink:

Ghoste

Not a landslide?  Barf and hate it are pretty much the same thing so add those two numbers together and the fence sitting choices hardly condone the car.  I'd say that if the numbers aren't what you consider a landslide, they sure still point to the lovers of it as being in the minority.

As far as new cars go, it's nice, but it's not a Charger. They should have named it something else. The New Challenger picks up where it left off, that's cool. Making a 4dr family car and calling it a Charger is NOT cool....

It does? Take a scroll up in this thread and tell me that again. You may not be aware, but that brown looking thing is actually a Challenger.

Troy

Why doesn't it say 06-07 Chargers? As I've stated before, the looks do nothing for me. Especially not enough to drop that much money on a new car. However, I was up close and personal with an all black SRT-8 at the Garlits show and I could deal with that one. I saw an SRT-8 Magnum (orange/red) in St Loius though and I'd have a hard time choosing between the two. The front end on the Magnum SRT-8 is flat out cool and the back end of the Charger SRT-8 is still hideous. I'm not sure a station wagon does it for me though (but neither does a 4 door sedan). The only vehicle I've ever owned with 4 doors is my Suburban - unless you count the back doors on the Ram. Oh well, I won't fork over the cash for either until I can get them used at a hefty discount. Until then I'll have to build my cars.

Oh, and Chris, some of the people wearing blindfolds around the new Charger are doing because they can't stand the sight - not because they aren't open minded. :P I'm to the point where I don't care about the name or the extra doors. I just don't like it all that much. I can't stand the new Ram, Durango, or most Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep vehicles (including the Viper) but that's just my taste in cars.  It has something to do with the style and they all share design elements. I feel the same way about many manufacturers though. Toyota and Nissan spring to mind - I used to love their cars.

This is one point I've tried making time and again. Most people who love their classic Chargers do not love the '06 Charger. They might think they're ok, tolerable, good enough, something they could deal with, etc., but it is not something that you'd sit and stare at for any length of time like many classic Charger owners do. They will not be dragged out of barns and wrecking yards 30 years from now to undergo restoration. They will never be "classic" by any stretch of the definition.

70charginglizard

You guys remember in the beginning when Chrysler told us that the new charger will not come with a 6 speed shift because there was no market for it. (like they told us about the two door vs 4 door thing)
Well I just got the new mopar action mag this afternoon and low and behold. The new Charger this year with the 6.1L hemi is going to offer the 6 speed manual shift.

Goes to show that with a little pressure from the public they will come around.

Now for the doors! lol

You all do of coarse know that this new charger poll already exists.

SERIOUSLY GUYS........WHEN YOU LOOK AT ALL OF THE NEW CARS OUT THERE , DODGE OR NOT.......THE 06 CHARGER IS ONE OF THE BEST LOOKING CARS ON THE MARKET.....IMO

SURE , IT IS A HIDDEOUS THING DEFACE THE CHARGER WITH 4 DOORS, BUT AT LEAST ITS NOT A CHEVY OR FORD.....IF I WAS LOOKING FOR A 4 DOOR RWD CAR, ID BUY THE CHARGER BEFORE  A CROWN VIC OR WHATEVER GENERAL MALFUNCTIONS RWD CAR THERE  IS THESE DAYS

AND LETS FACE IT.......IF THE NEW "CHARGER" WAS ACCTUALLY CALLED  "INTREPID "  WOULD WE BE HAVING ANY OF THIS CONVERSATION????? I THINK NOT......

HERE IS MY QUESTION ......HOW MANY OF YOU WOULD BUY THE NEW CHARGER IF IT WAS CALLED "INTREPID"???

NOW DONT THINK FOR A SECOND THAT I DONT THINK THAT THE GUY AT MOPAR WHO DECIDED IT WAS OK TO LABEL THE 06 "CHARGER" NEEDS HIS BAG SLIT......OR AT LEAST A GOOD SWIFT KICK IN THE NUTS

having driven the 06-07 and being forced to sell them,id say that although the car doesnt deserve the charger name,it is a solid family sedan-i usually sell the 300s,because it doesnt cause me to contradict myself"real chargers have 2 doors".on the other hand i love the magnum, and will being taking on for a demo this week or next, and being the same platform, the wagon drives better, and is actually usefull. i have never had anyone bitch to me about the magnum being a wagon instead of a 2 door full size coupe, but still have customers ask why the "charger"is a four door sedan!

I would buy one if they contiued to call it Intrepid. I think this car followed the Intrepid heritage very well (large family size sudan)

I use to own an Intrepid. I really liked that car and was sad to see the name disapear. It was a very handsome, sleek looking vehicle and a great car for towing around the kid and the kids friends. But a muscle car? I think not. Neither is the new charger as far as I see it. I believe the idea in a mucle car was to run the 1/4 mile as quickly as possible. Wouldn't the design of a car with 4 doors as opposed to two add more weight in a vehicle? I thought the idea in 1/4 mile racing was to have a car that has less weight not more?

The main factor for me not wanting to buy the new charger is the fact that they are draging the Charger name thru the mud. I'm fine with the car in general. It's not that bad looking anymore with the enhancements they've been descretely adding to it since it first came out. I do say that descretely though because it's only been obvious that they knew they made a mistake with the way it looked at first.
But it will never live up to the name charger as far as I'm concerned until they offer an option to loose two of those 4 doors.

Sorry but it's just how I feel about this. I just don't understand why someone carrying around soccer practice kids and trying to be safe and sane would need to have something that's supose to be built to run at the race track. It makes no sence.
