ds440, I would assume if it's just 4 holes the trunk lid is definitely worth saving...I haven't checked prices on decklids lately, but nothing's cheap anymore.

Thanks.  I've had a hard enough time finding a decent basic decklid (reasonably priced) as it is.  Now trying to find an "early" decklid as well.... :Pugh.  When I get my lazy butt in gear I'll take some pics and post 'em.

I just checked, and I also have the bent wire type glovebox latch.  And definitely have the "hood type" decklid.  My problem now is that the idiot who owned it before me attached a spoiler and drilled four lovely holes in it. :icon_smile_blackeye:  Is that worth fixing?

I also read somewhere about an early style trunk torsion bar set up?  Anyone have any pics/info on that?

Definately hang onto that trunklid. A good bodyman could weld-in four holes with no warping whatsoever.

Here are the headlamp bezels of which '69's or '70's don't have........

Not ALL 69's dont have these O0

Hey Chris:

Did your 69 have those headlight bezels originally or were they Chris-additions?

Either way, I think they look great.

Terriffic thread too...

I like the sound of that...... Chris-additions ;)

I painted them to match the 69 grill scheme.  Definately a part that should have made it to the 69-70's as well.....just cleans up the empty void when the lights are on.....

Those might look good on a '70... :scratchchin:      ;D

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Here's a handfull of promised pics.

1) Decklid with holes for spoiler. :P
2) Red/white/blue emblem (not the best pic)
3) Metal a/c vents
4) Chrome belt buckles....are these correct?  Or should there be a black finish on them? (the date is correct for the car)

Oh, and Plum Crazy with a red interior is NOT a quirky '68 detail.

I 'saved' this car from an idiot.  A color-blind idiot.... :icon_smile_blackeye:

And lookie - the 1969 Charger Catalog had the bezels shown too!

Personally, I like the look...

There are a lot of 68 items (especially interior pieces) that are 68 specific in the 69 brochure.....

While we're on the topic of 68 details, anyone know anything about the 3-speed wiper motors?  Seems like most of the 68s I've seen have the gold-cadmium finish motor, but I've also seen several with the silver & black motor.  Was there any rhyme or reason to why a car would have one vs the other?  Mine has the silver/black one and I'm 99% it's the original motor...

And map pocket buttons too correct? I didn't think '69's had those.

Don't forget the shifter knob.

In the other pics in the brochure it shows the car with a '68 gas cap as well.

Were PRE-production cars commonly used in ads??? I'm thinkin' so.
That would explain the 'leftover' '68 parts being used.

Recharger

I think you're right about that.  I seem to recall seeing some 67 stuff in a few 68 brochures as well, so that's probably what was happening.  Of course I can't recall any specific examples offhand...

Doc MoPar

The belt buckles in my '68 are actually dark green with a texture to them, and I'm pretty sure they are the originals.
I also have the all red door panel emblems and the molded 1 piece trunk, my date code is 207 though.
I also have the black plastic door handle buttons and the bulls eye dash piece, made in Hamtramck.

I'm gonna add another item to this, my 67 style steering wheel:

There were also two types of ash trays in '68, a slider type and a pivot type.

Great thread.

But I had a question that I have yet to recieve a consensus on.  Door handles.  My '68 (SPD 9/18/68) has a chrome button.  My brother's '69 (SPD 12/4/68) has the black button.  I have been told that it should be the opposite.  I've seen '68s with both and seen '69s with both.  I did a search and couldn't find a definative answer?

Well, for one thing, with that S.P.D., your '68 is in fact a '69. My '69's SPD was 8-5?-68. Which by all rights makes your doorhandle buttons correct. :icon_smile_big:
As for your brother's car, the interior doorlocks aren't by any chance way at the back of the doors are they? My guess is, either the doorhandles or the entire doors have been swapped out.

You could get the standard wiper motor, but in 1968 there was an accessory package Code 351 that was really, really popular. It gave you a radio, power steering, power brakes, 3 speed wipers, deep dish wheel covers, and remore mirror.

Also very popular was the Code 355 group, which gave you the map light, ashtray light, ignition switch light, and trunk light. I would say this and the 351 package were choices on the majority of 1968 Chargers to the point they are almost standard equipment.
