Sue George, Prez of the WW/NBOA, sent me the details of this year's National Meet in Charlotte.  Looks to be a good year for Wing Car Events!!!!

JUNE 18-23: WINGED WARRIORS/NBOA "A Night With The Real Winged Warriors", 33rd Annual National Meet to be held in Charlotte, NC.

This may be the largest and most historical club meet since the Talladega Reunion.  The current schedule looks like this:

Monday:
Early arrivals, time to shop or go on race shop tours.

Tuesday:
Morning free time, evening sign-in, receive your goody bags, and pay for escorted race shop tours if not going on your own. They will pick you up at the hotel. Other info at this time also.

Wednesday:
Petty Museum visit. A very special guest is planned to attend!

Thursday morning:
Fantastic museum tour of Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville. They have lots of real vintage race cars including Richard Petty's first racecar and the car Lee Petty went over the Daytona wall in. This is one of the best museums of it's kind. We'll have special parking and special rates.

Thursday evening:
In the evening we'll spend the night with the Legends. This will be a gathering of the most former winged car racecar drivers ever assembled since they actually raced together!

Confirmed to attend are: Bobby Allison, Dr Don Tarr, James Hylton, Joe Frasson, Neil Castles, Dave Marcis, Jim Vandiver, Little Bud Moore and Buddy Parrott who was on the Bobby Isaac 1970 Championship team. This will be a big Bench Racing Q & A up close session and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet the guys who raced these very special cars. We will also have a catered BBQ.

Friday:
If you survive all of that, we're working on a Lowes Motor Speedway track tour and photo op on the speedway.

Saturday:
Our farewell picnic in a local park.

IF YOU MISS THIS ONE, YOU'VE MISSED HISTORY!

Our headquarters hotel is the Wingate Inn, exit 49 off I-85 in Concord, NC. Our special room rate is $94 per night for a king or double, call (704) 979-1300 and tell them you're with the Winged Warriors. This is truly a first class hotel with racing and car themes in every room, full breakfast buffet, free do-it-yourself laundry, outdoor pool, free wireless and wired high-speed, cordless phones in each room, fitness center and indoor spa, Monday-Thursday beer and wine in the lobby, Hooters wing night, trailer parking, within walking distance of 15 different restaurants.

If you have questions or need to know about joining the club, call the club headquarters at (515) 432-3001 or send an e-mail to: hemi@willinet.net.

Hey Troy, are you gonna drive or trailer out there from Houston?  This sounds like the event to attend this year with that kind of line-up.

Phil

I'm thinking I'll swing this event as well this year. I know if I do attend I'll be there with full camera gear, and photography gear. If there is an aero car present I'll get a photo of it, okay more like about 100 of each car. I take a lot of pics. :)

**UPDATE**

A point of clarification for those interested in attending...

I just found out that the WW/NBOA National Meet is a members-only event.  Here is the quote from their website:

FOR INSURANCE LIABILITY, CLUB MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS EVENT. SEE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE FOR INFORMATION ABOUT JOINING AND PLAN TO ATTEND THIS HISTORIC EVENT WITH US!

Here is the link to the page this excerpt came from:

http://wwnboa.org/comingevents.htm

That's where you can find the information about joining up if you need to.

What events do they have planned that would exactly make it a members only thing? I don't recall anything about driving cars on a track or anything that would make it insurance liability or anything.

Hey- 69-500,,Danny Boy;;;;; How's  you and all the family wintering? We just survived the worst ice storm in history.   Now,, If you had been listing to what I told you the last 2-3 years, you would know why you have to join!!!

69_500

Oh I've listened to ya over the past 3-4 years Jim. I did join the club though 3 years ago. Have met many nice people in the club.

Then again I met you on the old charger board, and many times at shows since then. Glad to hear you made it through the ice storm.

Here I am reading through the newsletter & almost planning for this event, when I realize that it takes place during the last week of school for my daughter.   ::)

Surprisingly, my wife said we can just take her out of school & go, but I don't particularly like that idea. I never understood that concept when I was a kid myself, when parents would pull their kids out of school to go on vacations. It is just the last week when there's not too many important things going on & it's only 1st grade, so I'll have to think about it.

I've always wanted to go to one of the wing car meets, so maybe this one will be the first.  :shruggy:

I'd say if you can make one, this one would be a good one to attend. I'm going to take time off work to go on at least Thrusday. I'm filming another car show on Saturday so I'd have to be back here in Indianapolis for that day.

Well, I just got off the phone with Kenny Brackett (the host) and he said that the first hotel has sold out already and he had to block the hotel next door also.  He mentioned that over 70 members have confirmed reservations already!  I just made mine.  Now all I have to do is figure out if I'm gonna drive or trailer the Superbird all the way out there!!!  :drive:

Here's the 2nd hotel info...

If you guys haven't signed up to this club your missing out! They do some cool stuff and go to some great locations! I went to Kansas City with them two years ago and had a great time!! Still a member just don't own a wing car :brickwall:
Even though I had the only General Lee there we were welcomed as though we had a bird or a Daytona! Hopefully I can make it to another event soon. :RantExplode:

Who alls going to be there: Members here i mean? I am coming some evenings maybe all? but have to work everyday so it will be later in day. Right now I'm planning on going but it will all depend if my foot has recuperated from the heel surgery I had on my right foot.

It would really suck if I can't go because I've been looking forward to this event for months!   :-\
