74 plymouth sattellite.

Why are the leaf spings so expensive for this year?
And what is with the wierd bushing at the shock mount plate. Wierd becuase my chargers don't look at all like this.
Would I be better off having them rearched? Would that save any money?
I only know of espo and they are charging $320 TO $340 for the set.

Chryco Psycho

the spring eye is oval with a huge bushing , the isolator wraps around the spring on the 73-74
you can weld in new spring seat on the diff & use normal shock plates
not certain if the earlier springs can be swapped in as well ?

AmadeusCharger500

Swapping shock plates would allow what?
I could use springs from another b-dody of same year?
Are the charger springs different length?

Shock mount plate doesn't have bushing, is just a bigger hole to fit spring isolator and then the isolator does have the hole to the spring stud. Looks like a bushing but really isn't

You can remove isolator clamps kind and instal an earlier assembly changing also the lower shock plate but if you remove isolator clamps, then Car will sit higher, because since 73 axle pedestal is shorter to match with earliers ride height because same isolators clamps assembly.

Now, why are these sprngs expensive... dunno, maybe as stated, because front busshing is elongated

Springs itself should it be interchangeable with earliers if cost is your worry since rear frame rails are the same as far I know, But about the shock aborbers plate, that's another stuff and not really spring related. Spring guide stud is the same on earliers and laters.

So changing it to an earlier style would not be a performance or handling issue? Is the 73/74 charger the same as this.

As far as ride height raising.
Could the front bracket be turned upside down to compensate?

I think so, but get measurements first.

Change to earlier style is not that easy. Is Not just ride height, is also the axle pedestal guide hole to spring won't fit properlly on spring. 73/74 axle pedestal hole is BIG to fit the isolator clamp, for a while earliers axle pedestas are with smaller guides holes to JUTS FIT the spring stud guide DIRECTLY over spring. You would need also fill the axle pedestal guides hole maybe with a thick washer.

Check attachment.

Why are you worried ? Spring clamps are not relationed with spring year. All springs have same guide stud. As stated spring and clamp are two different stuff. You need to get worried or be sure what assembly you have if you want to install rear sway bar ( OEM ) or change the axle. But spring is not a deal with those clamps. JUST the lenght and stud location itself.

To give a better explanation here I ilustrate both assemblies assemblies

Notice:
- pedestal heigth differences because the Isolator clamps height.
- pedestal guide holes differences ( and related )
- width difference on C bolts ( laters are wider because clamp gets also wider assembly )

Now about SPRING ITSELF... if you get that 71/72 are same lenght ( from center of bushing ) and guide location than 73 and laters you will be able to fit any one on anymodel. Spring structure on that area is teh same on ANY MODEL SPRING Clamps won't notice that difference.
