Ok guys, heres current progress pics of my Charger. Its a factory U code 70 R/T. 440 4 bbl, 727, and 8 & 3/4 rear with 3.23. Its fairly well optioned with hood pins, tape stripe, Air conditioning, console and buckets, and more stuff I cant' remember off hand. I was going for more detailed pics but the camera died. Let me know what you think.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Its coming along, lately Ive made good progress I'm wet sanding and buffing the paint now, it's like a mirror. I'm proud to say I have done every single thing to this car. It was a driver from 99 when I got it until 03. Then I took it completly apart to restore it. This is my first resto and theres a 68 RT right behind it to do. This one will stay mostly stock with a few updates like modern wheels, aftermarket guages in the factory holes, and a few other small things that arent permanant. But its been a dream of mine to have a Charger and build it from the wheels up and thats exactly what I'm doing. Body, paint, wiring, engine, interior. Everything will be done by myself. :drive:

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

JR

Lol. Yeah, the tips are kinda yellow. but I planned from day one to replace them since they are pitted and one is bent so I didn't mask them when I painted it. I'm getting some repros to replace them.
The next thing I'm thinking of is giving it the hood blackout treatment. Its an early build so it didn't get that option new, but I think it looks badass so i'm putting it on. and I'm adding hood mounted signals, power windows, rear defrost, power trunk release, power locks, and even a remote for the locks/trunk.
The motor will be mostly stock with an upgraded cam, igniton, maybe headers. Its going to be a comfortable driver with a little more power than stock. I'm more concerned about reliability and comfort. My friends can all go build 10 second drag racers, I'll just smile and wave as I pass them on the highway. ;D I'd like to go on the power tour and a few other things with it. It's way more fun to drive than to trailer everywhere.

When you are ready to get rid of those tips, you can send em to me for sure.  i'd be more than happy to blast/sand em and spray em some kind of color that fits the general.  Even if it's aluminum, it will still look better than the exhaust pipe sticking out to me. :icon_smile_big:

Looks great, are you gonna put a vinyl top on it?

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Thanks for the compliments guys. Yeah it's a vinly roof car. Being a Texas car, the only severe rust on the car was under the vinly roof. I had to make the right hand sail panel from scratch since I couldn't find a donor. It was totally gone. I actually work for an auto trim design so my boss is going to handle the vinly roof for me. Thats one area I don't mind not doing. Maybe the headliner too...

It is a very bright color. Counting what I did It's only been repainted twice since new and it has always been yellow. It wasn't wearing any stripes during the last paint job though, but it has always been easy to spot in a parking lot with all that bright yellow paint.

interior pic

There are some things I want to mention. The entire right hand sail panel was rusted away. A buddy and me had to make a new one completly from scratch out of a dart quarter panel. I got the flat year one piece but it wasn't much help.
The vinly top was put on by my boss who started his business 27 years ago doing vinly roofs. It's flawless and it makes the car. All I had to do to pay him back was help move furniture. It really pays to know people.
I picked the ultra lite silver face guages cuz I had planned to put carbon fiber trim over the woodgrain. But the way its coming together, I don't think it would look right now. So the woodgrain may stay.
Its picked up a few dents since I painted it 3 years ago, but I'm going to get it done, and then go back and fix them. I'm ready to ride now.
The engine is a 30 over 440 block, with a 70 Six pack cast iron intake. Im getting the 440 source 500 kit to go in it. Mostly for the torque. I just want a fun driver.
I'm very proud of what I have done with it. When it's over, I can say I did everything but the vinly top, drivers seat, engine bottom end and tranny build. It's alot of work but it's also very satisfying.
Let me know what ya think. ;D

They add character! If I wasn't planning on replacing them I'd of taped them off. They'll be in the mail as soon as the car hits the exhaust shop mike. :icon_smile_cool:

Here's some new pics guys. Working 2 jobs plus side work doesn't leave me much free time. I got a clear pic of the guages though.

Here's the Autometer Ultra Lite guages in the factory cluster. It was a fairly simple install though.

JR

Here's the last pic for now. The 440 has been installed for a month or two now. I've been riding. The car is mechanically restored back to better than new now. As soon as the budget alllows, the subframe connectors, adjustable control arms, chassis bracing, modern wheels and rubber will follow. I want this car to handle.

I don't have a pic yet of the engine installed, let me see if I can grab one...

Did you just not like the hood pins? I notice where you said your car came with them, but I don't see them installed. It is a cleaner look without them, but an unusual and very catching look with them as well.

JR

Here's the other engine pic. I hate this stupid flex hose, but couldn't find a molded one to work with the custom radiator.

Cstripes, I havent bought any to put on yet. I was going too, but before I even got the car home, both fenders got dented. Then 2 months later, the garage doors smacked into both quarters when it was parked halfway out of the garage. So now I am going to repaint the etire car. It also has rocker trim and wheelwell trim that I'll wait to put on til then. It's really a driver. I could have been more anal with the details, but the main purpose of doing this was to make it 100 percent reliable and capable of being driven anywhere without breaking down.

I'll repaint it this winter when it's too cold to do anything elese, and take care of all the trim and badges then. Although it would look alot better with them on now for sure.

Good eye.  :coolgleamA: The original hood had some rot on the underside bracing, and had some aftermarket hoodpins installed in the originals place. Rather than restore that hood, I used a clean hood that I had gotten from a member here years ago off a race car that didn't have pins. I am definatley putting them back on, I just havent had the cash or the time really to spring for the details. I'll prolly get them and cut the holes before I repaint it, that way if I mess up the paint it's no big deal. I cant for the life of me see where they used to bolt on the core support. The factory pins had been replaced with some of those locking ones years ago. But the fender tag calls for them.

Go over to Chris's 70 Charger registry site and spend some time.. There is a lot of good information in the form of pics, literature and threads that can help.

new pics guys, lets see if this works.

I keep having to stop posting and work, but I cant complain since I'm at work anyway.

here's another pic

I have done a buttload of work since last time, and have been driving it everywhere. I've still got a ton of work to do.

My favorite addition is the chin spoiler, and the XM radio is hooked up now. That's nice. Especially since there's no good station around here. Oh, and the window tint. I work for an Auto Trim Design, so I got the hookup on the tint. I love how sinister it looks with it.

I put the dual crossed flags on the rear deck because of General Lee 1. I always thought that was cool. I'm not southern enough for the rebel flag though, so I settled for two checkered ones.
70 Charger RT top bananna /68 Charger RT triple green

JR

I wanted an artsy photo since these cars are rolling artwork. Maybe once its' repainted and the new rubber is installed, I'll get a better one.

I love how Chargers look "in action" even when still.
70 Charger RT top bananna /68 Charger RT triple green

JR

I also installed some auxrillary lights behind the grille. I do alot of driving in the middle of nowhere, and they really help. Better to have the ugly lights than plow into a deer. It does look very "Blade" at night.
