my oil dip stick broke off where it goes into the block, does any one know any easy way of getting the s.o.b out? :flame:

How much of the dipstick is broken off?  Is the dipstick still in the tube?  Pull the tube slowly and you can pinch the stick.  Or get a small magnet with a grabber?  Or ??? Yikes.

good luck

Is there any at all that you can see or did it go in the pan?  a magnet might work if it was always a loose fit, or a set of needlenose.  if you have a set of snapring pliers, you may be able to put them through the hole in  whats left of the dipstick and expand them to grab the underneath and pull it out that way. or take a couple of awls/scribes that are curved on the end and try to hook it from the inside that way.

of course it it fell in the pan, then there is no easy way IMO.

good luck

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

i guess i worded this wrong, the dip stick came out,the tube broke off clean at the block, right at the lip on the tube that sets on the hole

I stick with my previous suggestions, but also what about putting a stepped bit or an extracter and kind of hand tightening or very lightly wrenching it in the hole of the tube and maybe pulling it out that way.

Is still the lip section on block ? or did the lip section came out with the tube ?

To do it right I just know removing oil pan and punching out from bottom... another way is punching out from top letting fall inside the pan.

I know this worked for me once find a screw to thread down a couple of turns don't force it. Then simple pull it out they are not usually in very tight A couple of threads in usually works. You just don't want to get to big of a screw you want it to dig into the tube without pushing out on the outside of the tube

I've done this a few times over the years and hope I can explain it correctly. Because the swedged part is still there what I do is take a small chisel and start to bend the tube inward, just a little, in one spot, then I take an awl and get the tip of it into the small space you created between the block and the tube and gently drive it down in there. This causes the tube to collapse into itself and becomes kinda half moon shaped and then you can grab it with a pair of needle nose Vise-grips and yank it out. Not easy but it Has worked for me every time, good luck.

That's the reason why I was asking if "lip" was on large broken section or on the block section

Yes, if the bulge or swedge is still part of the stuck tube do just as said above. Also, a set of small needle nosed vise grips can work well in this case. Just try to grab it on one side. Not going across to the other side too.

Otherwise, off comes the pan.    :-\
