steering column switch

there is a switch right at the bottom of my steering column right next to the floor(column shift if it makes a difference) that is on a bracket that goes around the top of the column, does anyone know what it does? it looks original

It's the backup light switch. In late '68 they moved it to the transmission.

thanks, thats ok then as my back up lights are now amber turn signals!
