When I go to have my bumpers rechromed, will they fix any imperfections in them, such as a ding or dent?  Mine are straight but not entirely perfect.

Also, if I want to fill in holes for things that I dont need such as bumper jack slots, rubber filler trim, and bumper guards, can i do that before they are rechromed and have it come out looking like they were never there?

rubber filler trim holes location are not visible from exterior ( except on rear bumper to the corner filler studs )

Dunno up there but down here rechrome shops do everything needed to get it straight before rechrome. They are able to fill bumper guards holes HOWEVER don't fill those holes since they are holes to bolt the bumper brackets. Bumper guard stud make that function, so you will need fill those holes with bumper bolts.

I am talking about these holes.  They are to attach the top 2 studs of the back corner trim.  Im picky I know.  (as you can see, im removing the brackets they attach to on the inside of the bumpers too, even though they cannot be seen)

I am also considering welding the bumper brackets to the bumper and filling in the bumper bolt holes.  I want it to look as sleek as possible.   :yesnod:

I am thinking about color keying the bumpers on my 73 to match the body color, cheeper than rechrome and I like the look of it on 3rd gens.

I was going to do the same thing until I got the quote.  :o $1,800 dollars to fill in all the holes and weld in the bumper bolts so it would be smooth, no holes.   Decided to go with TriCity Plating and use new bolts, paid an extra core charge to get 71 bumpers without the jack slot instead of my 72 bumpers.

Ouch, why so much?  I thought about filling them myself but they would still need some work to be ready for chrome.

IMHO, not good idea weld the brackets to bumpers at least on front, even neither on rear.... they need to be adjusted. Usually they don't fit at first try and you need to play with them for a while you are mounting. Rear are a lot easier, but...

AND those are only ones holes are visible without fillers that I was talking about too. You could take or try to find also a 71/72 rear bumper without those holes.

OUCH!!! I paid just US$250 TOTAL FOR BOTH  bumpers AND guards, for rechroming AND STRAIGHTEN job ( a SOB hook on my front bumper and bended ). Long time ago I rechromed rear one just because I wanted to fill some holes last owner opened to trailer hook on bumper, for about same price. Wasn't a REAL GOOD job since I had to rechrome again 2 years ago.

If you bolted the brackets on first you could line up the bumper and have someone spot weld it, check for alignment then weld the rest of the way on.  Besides  really the adjustment is in the bolts to the body anyways.  The brackets only go one place on the bumper.
