What Speakers Do You Have in Your '68 - '70 Charger?

I am preparing to purchase some speakers for my car and I was curious as to what others are using.

I'd like to have something that simply bolts in with no hassles or interference.

I will need to mount one under the dash and two in the rear parcel shelf.

Suggestions please.

Thanks in advance.

KENWOOD makes a speaker that fits into the center dash.  I'll dig around for what specific model it is..

Polk Audio makes one as well. . . . I run Pioneer 6X9's and a Rockford 10" sub in the back of mine. I don't run any front speakers. Mine is so loud, the music is all around you anyway.

I'd take polk over kenwood anyday.  Kenwod quality is not up to my standards.  As for the rear, boston acoustic, pioneer is ok(if you are on a budget) Infinity, alpine, polk.

Here's some models to look at

polk momo mmc 690

boston acoustic sx 95

infinity kappa  692.7i  and the 693.7i kappa

JBL power  p953

Also I bet infinity has a nice kappa speaker for the dash, but I don't know what the size is for the dash mounted speaker.

good luck

I've got a couple of 3.5" Blaus in the center dash opening.

5x7" Kenwoods in back.

10" Kenwood tube sub in the trunk. (internally amplified)

Competing with headers and 3" exhaust, my stereo has it's work cut out for it.

A couple FOCAL mid rangers down by my feet, two FOCAL tweeters up in the dash (factory 3 speaker dash) and a 10" sub woofer behind the rear seat back.  A couple amps back there as well.  Will have two woofer's back there this spring mounted at angles coming off wheel wells with the amps in the middle.  CD player in glove box has a MP3 player with a 750 song capacity coming out of it to eliminate having to tote CD's around.

Stereo shop sold me on the FOCALS.  I had never heard of them.

Frank, can you please tell us/me more about the stereo system you have in your car?  Do you have any photos?

I'm looking for the stock look but with the ability to listen to the music I want to with decent sound.

What so you have?

Thanks.

Mike, can you please post some pics of this stereo you have stashed in the glove box?

I was thinking the same thing.  Did you have to mount some brackets to the inner structure of the dash to support the stereo?

You mention that it has mp3 capabilities - do you simply plug in your mp3 player with a usb cable or what?

I haven't paid much attention to car stereos for years as my daily drivers all came from the factory with adequate radios / cd players so I never really followed the evolution of car audio like I did when I was younger.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I used to do all my own work but my mobility doesn't justify it anymore so I'm guessing at my answers.  I'm a check writer, I paid a stereo shop to do the install.  You can see on the side of the deck where there's an L bracket mounting it down.  I'm assuming there's metal under there because it's very sturdy.  It's at a little bit of an angle cause the remote is picky and seems like it has to be dead on, so I had them angle it last time in.  I want the deck up on the top of the opening so I don't have to drive around with the glove box completely open.
The MP3 cable goes to an AUX outlet on the backside.  I scroll to AUX on the deck face as well.  The cable (not a USB) just goes in the headphone jack on the MP3 player and is quite long reaching the backseat if necessary.  I think just about all new decks have the MP3 feature nowadays.  I know it was gonna cost a lot more $$ for the hook up if I had an IPOD player instead.

I can get a picture of my trunk if you'd like.  It's not real attractive at the moment, will be upgrading this spring.  :icon_smile_wink:

Sure thing, I had the stock AM 8-track radio gutted and filled with modern electronics. It is now AM/FM 8-track with a lead that I can plug in a cd/mp3 player. I am thinking about adding an amp in the trunk. Keep the stock look but Kick out the Jams  :punkrocka:

Thanks for this Mike.

I like the idea of this, but still have some time for decisions.  Although I like to do a lot of things myself, this is one of the tasks that I'd have no issues with farming out.  I'll keep in mind what you have told me here.  That's a cool set up!

Any issues with having two stereos hooked up to one set of speakers?  A switch or something that allows you to go from the stock unit in the dash to the modern one in the glove box?

Thanks again.

Although I like what Mike had done, I must admit, this is pretty cool also.

You had it done locally Frank?  Was it pricey?  Do I need to upgrade anything else in the car, like adding an amp or something?

I might also go this route.

I found a single Kenwood speaker this morning, thanks to Mike for letting Dodge Don know I was looking for one, who has an extra one as he bought a pair.

Thanks again for telling us more about your system.
