u bolt question

I just finished putting my rear end back into my 74 Charger.  According to the specs in the manual I have for my car, it said to tighten the ubolts to 45 ft lbs.  Is this right?  I tightened them to these specs...It was fairly tight but it seemed that I could tighten it a lot more.  Any advice for this?  I also notice that on the passenger side of the rear end, one of the Ubolts wasn't completely straight up and down.  The top part of the bolt was over about 3/8" futher towards the backing plate then the bottom.  I had a hard time pushing the ubolt closest to the backing plate towards the center section.  Is this going to cause a problem?

i would drop the car down so that the weight of the car is on the springs, maybe roll it back and forth a few times, then re check the u bolts-im sure some one else will chime in on the torque specs, but that seems pretty light to me- i cant remember what we used when i swapped my rear housings, but when i get in the garage i can check what i wrote down

45 ft/lbs is the correct torque, it'll work.   It would be a good idea to recheck it after a few miles.

It's not a midlife crisis, it's my second adolescence.
