I did some searching and I am wondering if I need to replace the rear on my charger.I hope to swap in a mild 360.I don't plan to take it down the strip.just mainly cruise.
I would like to swap gears in it to 3.55 and instal alimited slip of some kind. All the 8 3/4 i have found are major $$$$ i don't have.I wondered if a rear from a dakota with the goodys in it would be feasable.would one swap in? I have tried to find the dimensions of them and haven't had any luck.trying to look at different ideas. ???

if you dont abuse it,it should last for a while- i ran mine behind a mild 440 and beat on it for a good while, like ive said in the past its traction that hurts em!

I had one under my 318 Challenger from 1970, until a couple of years ago, there was nothing wrong with it just swapped for a 340 with a 8 3/4.

1970 Challenger convertible 340/727

I would think that an 8 1/4 would work fine for what you are doing. :Twocents:

I am currenty running a combo very similar to yours.  I have a moderately built 360 that runs through a mostly stock 904.  I kepy my original 8 1/4 out back and installed 3.55 gears.  You do not need to upgrade to the 8 3/4, my car is a daily driver that sometimes hits the strip and my rear end is still solid.

Hey mean 318, you might want to resize that sig picture just a tad.  It's awesome none-the-less.   That's why I deleted my pics on the sig cause they took too long to load(at work) and I would rather read what everyone has to say.   Just a suggestion, I could care less cause my comp(at home) is pretty quick.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?
