Ghoste

Nope, Boss 429 was a Mustang engine only.  It's a Ford marketing decision that I always found puzzling.

jonw29

Ghoste.I agree. If my car had the b9 engine and a 4 spd. There is no way you could get me out of it.It would pass everthing but a gas station.

jonw29

If I were born rich instead of good looking I would buy it myself.

Ghoste

Not to forget that besides excluding it from a car they were using it in for competition, but it would have been a LOT less work to put it in there.  Not that an FE leaves gobs and gobs of room underhood.  Changing plugs or adding headers is major bit of work for you Ford folks.

Ghoste

NASCAR rules only stated that it had to be available to the public, they didn't say it had to be sold as such in the body style you intended to run.

Ghoste

And aren't we all glad that Chrysler didn't pursue a similar strategy?

dads_69

My dad had a '70 Mercury Cyclone. 429 4 speed CJ. Even he said it didn't compare to his '68 Hemi Charger. But it did do good burnouts, thats about it.

Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

Charger_Fan

Wow, that thing's got less that 50K original miles?  :o

Wish I could afford it too. :yesnod:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Aero426

If the Talladega and Spoiler II's were available with the Boss Nine and 4-speeds,  I'd venture to say they would be a whole lot more un-affordable today.    It's really too bad they were not offered in the same configuration as they raced.

jonw29

Doug you could be right.I guess we should be thankful.I surely would not be able to afford it if it were configured the other way.

Drache

You could also get the Cobra Jet engine in them....f

I've always wondered why the Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II's didn't even have a big block in them from the factory. Weren't they all 351 cars?

If they Talladega had been offered with a Boss 429 it would probably be the most sought after FORD produced.

Ghoste

Hey Jon, do the Spoiler II crowd ever get into big debates about the whole Easo ro West of the Mississippi thing?  Isn't there some sort of controversy with that?

jonw29

I don't think so.To my knowledge, the Dan Gurney cars were supposed to be west of the Mississippi. The Cale Y. were to be sold east of the Miss, but I think Cale's were sold in the west and Gurney's in the East.

Aero426

The whole Spoiler II east/west thing is an urban legend.    I've heard the story, but both cars were distributed nationally.

69_500

I was going to say, I thought they were pretty well evenly dispersed across the country. Then again I'm not a Mercury guy so I don't know all the details.
