I'm in the process of restoring an original hemi car. I purchased this car in 1981 from the original owner. Car had been sitting in a garage since 1969 and has never been driven since. Its a 4 speed console car with power steering, power brakes and power windows. All the sheet metal on the car is original and has never had any rust. I have everything to put the car back together including the original exhaust. I am trying to find out how many 68 hemi chargers were made and how many are left?

I have a book that says 467 hemi chargers were made in 1968 and that was 2.6 % of total production.  Sounds great! got any pictures?

Goviers White Book says 475 made but Mopar production numbers seldom seem to be too cast in stone.  It's anybody's guess how many are left.  I like to go with the 20% survival rate as a guess, but that's all it is.

Ghost, I am sure there are many #s out there,  I would istimate there were between 450 and 475 GG's # are probably more accurate.  Of those I would guess about 200-250 originaly equiped Hemi chargers are around and probable another 200-300 clones.  AT any brate it sounds like a jewel!

terrible one

That sounds like one hell of a Charger you got there! Those are some great options going along with the Hemi! Most of them are pretty bare so that the buyer could afford the Hemi.

Those are bolt-on tow bar pieces...  I believe they were on the car when he bought it, and he decided to leave them on for the "old school" effect.  I am fairly certain that he has never used them, the car is driven on the street or rides in an enclosed trailer for long trips.

Tommy has talked about taking them off... probably a good idea!  It is a VERY nice car tho...

Might be kinda' cool to mount some CHP style push bars there, then he can ram the slower motorists...  :icon_smile_wink:
