does a 2nd generation charger look good with side pipes?

yes
no

Does anyone know where I can get a side exhaust pipes like the corvette style that would be an easy bolt on to my 318 charger? ALSO, what would sound better small pipes or big pipes on a small block?

Steve P.

None of the above.. It's a CHARGER, NOT a Vette.. :flame:

I've seen 2 Chargers in my life that had side pipes. A 2nd gen and a 3rd generation. Both of them look horrendous    It's your car and you do with it what you want. My bet is that if you put it to a vote here on this CHARGER site, you would get a resounding, (GOD DAMN, DON'T DO IT)..........

You would have to custom weld it on. There's no side exhaust available for Charger right now. I wouldn't do it actually on Charger although I like how they look on Mustangs.

mikepmcs

ok, that admittedly is cool but i'd like it without the side pipes.  I'm guessing they are lakewood??

gimme a break guys.  I have a cheesy 318.  Not a big block like everyone else.  All I want is some info on how to get them.  I'm doing it for me and noone else

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a 318.  Matter of fact they are a pretty decent motor..  Like I said, it's your car, do as you like..

I would love to slap a hemi in it or a 440, but I'm really broke.  I think I'll just go with glasspacks or something

Steve P.

Summit has some fairly cheap turbo mufflers that work well..  I like the sound of them much more than glasspacks.. :yesnod:

Back in '82 or so I had a 72 Charger SE.  I put sidepipes on that and loved the way it looked and the way it sounded.  I recently spent some serious coin on e-bay on an NOS set of side pipes just like I had on my old SE.  One of my 72's will get the late 70's/early 80's treatment with the aluminum slots, sidepipes, etc.

I know, I'm a dork  :image_294343:

I voted no but you should do whatever you like.  For me, it makes me think of the 70's when everybody had to have side pipes.  It's like the fart cans and scare stickers the kids have on all their ricers today.

OK, I am not tryin to be an asshole, but seriously consider just putting dual exhaust and turbos on there! Thats what was on my 318 70 Coronet and it sounded SO sexy! again this is my opinion, and it is most important to be happy with your car so good luck! ;D

70charger_boy

Ok mean 318 you are the guy that I need some ideas from.  I got the idea for the side exhaust from this pic below of a daytona clone from another thread.  It looks real good.  As it stands right now the idiot that I bought my car from cut off the exhaust right at the header pipe.  It sounds really awful.  I really want to bolt on a mean sounding exhaust without swapping cams.  So, what would be a good system to put on it to make it sound like I'm driving a big block?

mikepmcs

Flowmaster or TTI.  Kind of tough to simulate a big block sound though with a small block but it will sound sweet none-the-less. :icon_smile_big:
