It's funny that everyone jumps the gun (no pun) when the news mentions gangs and shootings. Helpless people are dying on the streets because for whatever reason, it's taking forever to get them out.

Before some of you rip them for living off the government,... walk in their shoes for a day, or for that matter, blame the government for allowing people to use what they offer. Do you think some 10yr old is thinking about how he can get rich off of this? I think people should have left, but if you don't have alot of money and nowhere to go, you might stay as well. I think the police and firefighters are doing their best to help out. I saw firefighters on the news yesterday busting their butts to put out a fire in a building that will most likely be torn down.

As for the supply chopper problem, send an Apache gunship or 2 to escort.  Give the pilot and gunner orders to target and take out anyone that so much as shoots a BB gun at a chopper.  There will be very few, if any, repeat instances of someone taking shots at the supply copters, I can pretty much garruntee it.

Talk about kicking somebody (towns and cities in this case) while they are down! What is going on down there is absolutely despicable...sometimes what society does to itself is just plain unbelievable. My wife and I have vacationed in N.O. many times and we have a very close friend who lives close to there (even further out in the gulf!) and we hate seeing what is going on. We haven't been in contact with our friend since the hurricane so we don't know if he and his family are ok or even alive...and now we have to worry about what little they may or may not have being stolen, them being shot, or whatnot...this is just unbelievable. Interviews with people who are afraid to stay in the shelters because they may be beat up for their 1 shopping cart that is half-way filled with their last possessions in the world is hard for me to understand. I know there are many (the majority I hope) people who want to help and do good, but this doesn't say much for our level of humanity.

I just heard this morning in the news that the National Guard is shooting to kill. The thugs raping and bullying people in the Astro Dome are getting theirs now.

I never understood why the military did not drop food and water via air drops like they did in Iraq for the civilians and in the sunami disaster?? OK you say you can't get into the City due to the flood. How about by air?? Drop food, water and possibly tents.

Think about it for a second. You have water that is highly poisonous, you cannot just drop food into it. Also if you dropped a crate of food on that bridge by the Superdome what would happen? You would have a very large riot on your hands in a matter of seconds.

The ratio of hooigans to 'good' poor people is alot higher than middle/rich income people............and when thats all thats left it's not good...........as demostrated.

They could have had choppers flying supplies in there on the second day. Doesn't the military have self contained hospitals that could be air lifted into different places as soon as the choppers could fly??

The news footage from there is becoming difficult to watch. Thankfully it seems that 99% of the people have now been evacuated. I know there was a lot of people who did not have anyway to leave the city. But I wonder how much quicker the evacuation would have been if the people who could have left, but didn't, had left when ordered.
How many criminals do you suppose decided to stay behind, figuring they would have easy pickings once the city was empty, only to be rescued and brought to the Superdome?
