Is there a rivalry and where did it start because both cars sometimes get mentioned in the same breathe, or is it just a Bullitt thing

Ghoste

I think it's a Bullitt thing and maybe an 06 thing after the whole 2006 styling faux pas.

bull

As long as there have been muscle cars there have been rivalries all over the map. There are rivalries between Dodge and Plymouth guys and Chevy and Pontiac guys, guys with 440s and guys with 383s, you name it.

JMF

Really? Dodge and Plymouth? I thought they would be on the same team as such?

hemihead

On the street back in the day I can't remember too much Dodge vs. Plymouth . It was usually Mopar vs. the world. The true Mopar guys watched each others back.I knew 2 guys who wouldn't run each other because they were both Mopar guys.
Lots of people talkin' , few of them know

Shakey

I don't see how the two cars could ever be compared to each other, back then or now!

6pkrunner

It was pretty much everyone at everyone. If you had a 383 road runner, you were at your buddy with the Dart 340 and the other guy with the 396 Chevelles - it was pretty much a free for all. The time that brand loyality showed through was if a leaned on/exceptionnaly strong car from another brand showed up. Then the Dodge and Plymouth guys would pull together to get soemthing to knock the outsider down.
But it was a free for all. 1968 runner against 1969 runner, 340 against 383 against 440 against 440+6. And any other car/engine.
And a bag of fun.

We stick together when the other guys are around, but when its just me and him....  ;D

Charger1973

I see a Mustang being better suited to run against Challengers and Cudas.  Chargers are just bigger cars.  This pic is of my friends 74 Mustang parked behind my 73 Charger.  Which would you prefer?   :icon_smile_cool:

They both have two doors, four wheels, V8s and go fast. That's all there ever was to it.

Back to topic:

Anyway I have allways thought why allways put on same line Mustangs against Chargers. In fact even ourself do it, being the real Line up, Chargers vs Grand Torinos vs Monte Carlos or Chevelles as far I know.

Here in Venezuela is the Same. PPl line up Chargers Vs Mustangs vs Camaros... Maybe because Challengers weren't produced down here and Barracudas just on 65-66 I think.

The Mustang pictured is the Mustang II.  It was kinda like the 75 Chargers to many Ford guys, they never really counted it as a Mustang.
