I found someone selling a set of new aluminum 1.5 roller rockers that they got from 440 source (origionly $215). I was wondering if they are any good, and if I can get them a price I am willing to pay would you recomend getting them? I have a 73 440 out of a T&C wagon. I only plan (for now) on a new cam and matching springs to wake it up before dropping it in my 72 charger. latter on if the $$$ is there I will do some more to it like heads, then a stroker (I dought I will have that $$$ anytime soon). What do you think?

i've heard alot of people tend to steer clear of 440source roller rockers....i don't have any experience with them personally though
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

I will say it again .... using needle brgs in rocker arms does nothing to reduce restistance to movement & severly decreases surface area to apply the load to the shaft & if the rocker arm breaks as most alum rockers do eventually you get to fish needle brgs out of your engine
I use ductile Iron rockers [Crane or Isky] for most street applications or Stainless Comp Magnum rockers if roller tips are desired / high lift solid or roller cams with high spring loads    no

Do a serch on m-o-p-a-r-t-s , the 440 source rockers will work fine.
I will use them in a strip/street engine next year.

I had a friend who bought a set.  They did not work to expectations and needed replacement almost immediately.  All other parts from 440 source seem to work good

I just opened up a friends 440 about a month ago that started running like sh*t right after he bought it and guess what I found. It has exactly those rockers and 2 of them are broken and a few more are cracked and ready to let loose. Man are they junk but you get what you pay for, plus, it doesn't even have a big cam or heavy springs in it. If you must have these then the only ones I know of that hold up are the Harland-Sharpe pieces but you won't get them for even close to 200.00. If its a street motor just go with the HD stamped steel pieces, if its more then that, just go with what Chryco said as both are very durable, proven parts, good luck.

weak springs kill rockers (and cams for that matter) far more than any other factor as the valve bounce upon closure, or float at low RPM (4,500 +) will cause any components to fail no matter what the cost or name brand.

A large percentage of street strip or bracket cars (and some race only cars at .650" lifts) are using the 440-Source arms, as well as other "Source" parts with stellar results which would indicate that there is no fundamental flaw or weakness with them.

I personally won't use ANY roller components in a street engine as they offer no improvement, and are never as durable as stock, or non roller type replacements. Chryco is is totally correct in suggesting Ductile iron or stock.

The trick to getting long life out of any aluminum/needle bearing parts is to have proper valve spring pressures, and strong pushrods in order to keep deflection and valve bounce/float eliminated, or at least to an absolute minimum. This is particularly important with new "fast ramp" cams.

tec, are you sure they are the 440 sorce rockers and not the proforms?     id buy the comp pro magnums personally if i was in the market for a roller tip rocker.   i run iron rockers on my junky 452

Well, I didn't see a reciept but that is what brand the previous owner told him they were. I just swapped a set of stock rockers and shafts onto it and it runs great, no need to be that fancy on an almost stock motor to begin with.

Up to around .5 lift with hydraulic cam just use a nice set of HD stock type rockers for a no hassle street motor.
The Comps magnums are nice.   Avoid anything by Cat.
Aluminum is OK if it's a strip motor but for long term street use I'm sure most people would prefer something beefier like the ductile or comps.
