I'm looking for my original 440 motor for my Charger.  What methods/steps would you do to find your original motor?

1.) Original owner moved away in the late 70s.  (2nd owner could not remember persons name)
2.) Ontario Canada MTO/DMV: Title search only goes back to the early 80s
3.) local newspapers forsale/wanted
4.) This site
5.) ebay (being e-mailed daily with favorite searches)
6.) www.kijiji.ca,
7.) buy n sell ,
8.) craigslist
9.) online mopar/chrysler forums
10.) word of mouth
11.) local scrap yards

Any other suggestions?

Even of all the people with non-numbers 440s, I bet most of them wouldnt want to bother to go try and find the VIN stamping on their block.  Then theres the ones who just wouldnt want to bother with selling their motor and getting another.  I think you would have an easier time if you had a motor and tried to find the matching car! You never know, you may get lucky... but man that is a tough search.

Since the only reason that someone would switch a 440 for another is because they grenaded the original, I'm guessing that you are out of luck no matter how much research you do. Even if it was a warranty replacement, your engine would either have the proper numbers or none (the dealership was supposed to stamp the proper numbers on the block, even though most didn't bother), but the original was always shipped back to the factory and destroyed.

Or you can do what 90% (my estimate) of the restores do that don't have the original engine, and mill off the non-matching numbers and re-stamp a date matching block.
