I guess it's cheaper to build cars in China, where people are paid a pittance compared to the average North American Auto-workers' salary. Any difference with this and building Dodge Rams in Mexico?
I say: go for it!
They can have the pollution, et al.

And when exactly did he call Chrysler (a German company) and tell them to  partner with China? It is unlikely that Chrysler could make a profit on small (meaning cheap) cars made here because of the cost of doing business (not that you care). Everyone is entitled to an opinion but this "blame Bush" (for everything) is getting old. Correction, it's been getting old since about a year before the last election. To completely make this a political post... when the Democrats get back in office and jack up the taxes and add even more rules on "evil corporations" again you'll see even more of this sort of thing. Who will you blame then? Businesses are in business to make a profit. End of story. Frankly, your opinion means exactly squat to them because you aren't a member of the new car buying public. If they made one here and priced it at $25000 you'd say it's too expensive but if they sell one for $9999 you'll call it cheap. Either way, you won't be buying a car so they will cater to someone who will.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Bush is only about .000000008% to blame, the rest of the blame is divided between greedy corporations & the general buying public. People who would rather buy tools from Harbor Freight than Sears (before Sears sold out, that is), for example.

I go by were it is made as many Honda's and Toyota's are assembled in the USA, plus much of the machine work in all the local shops is for Honda. It is the jobs created not who makes the money that is important to me. I wish Subaru would start building over here so I can get my outback and not feel dirty about it.. :icon_smile_approve:

I just love how shallow the people are who blame Bush for every perceivable problem in the world. One man can't possibly be soooo powerful as to force multi-national companies to move their production elsewhere. Here's a thought for you shallow minded people....Maybe, just maybe unions have gotten soooo greedy that THEY have forced the corporations to make other arrangements for production in order to stay competitive and in business. I know that just may be a little to deep a thought to understand for such shallow people , so they just blame "Bush". Who ya gonna blame when "Bush" leaves office?   :o

Well.. we have the same problem here in Sweden..

Blaming the unions is as stupid as blaming the president (any president).  Troy nailed it when he said the corporations are in business to make profit, end of story.  Unless the terrible, child raping, wife beating, puppy murdering, soulless unions are willing to work for the same wage as China or whoever else is willing to perform the labor for less, that is where the manufacturing companies will go.  They will do it because it is profitable to do so and you would too.

The end of the American Auto Company is nearing it's end I think. No way they can compete with Chinese labor. Everything is made in China it seems, look at Wal-Mart's merchandise for example.

I agree and I think the day is coming very soon when Wal-Mart enters the new car retailing biz.  There will be no dickering, very limited color choice, about 3 option packages and will be extremely cheap and made in China.  They won't stock them.  You'll place your order and pick it up in a few days.
Then the American car industry will truly die.l

Lostsheep_01

They're omly building the SMALL car, not the entire Chrysler line!  It's like Troy said about businesses in business to make $$$.  A product is already established that Chrysler is lacking and it will be cost effective for Chrysler to take it to new markets.  Oh yeah, and it's all Bush's fault! ^-^

MoPar.  You're either with us or behind us!

Ghoste

They're only building the small one right now.  It's a cheaper way to get established.  You think if the Chinese market began crying for 300's like no tomorrow they would build them all here and ship them?  And if they started building them there for a fraction of the cost of here, they wouldn't import them from China to here?
It's coming, this is just the first step.  Remember, the Asian car makers all entered this market with nothing but small, extremely cheap and (in the beginning) not well built cars.  Once they got that beach-head...

To survive almost every large company has been forced to go global. How can a company compete when costs in one country are 15 times as much as the same services offered in another country. Yes there are huge differences in human rights and standards of living and such, but does anyone voice those concerns in a showroom when looking at a car or television? If so then not enough of them are doing it to make any difference. Jobs are outsourced becasue its cheaper period. And the percentage of those who will no longer deal with that copmany is less than the savings they realize by outsourcing - so it continues. Until China, Korea and other country's economies and cost of living rises enough to make doing business there no longer profitable, it will continue. And then only another country to exploit will be found and milked.
When a company has shareholders demanding a good rate of return at the end of a year, all rocks are looked under to find a way of cutting costs. at first it was the massive downsizing/restructuring. Once these were milked for all they were worth, then the wage cutbacks/worker concessions were employed. Those in manufacturing went to where cheap labor and power were found.

You have to understand, the Socialists(Democrats) drink the kool aid so the "Blame Bush" mentality is what they understand. I'm sure their beloved Al Gore and Hillary Clinton really love ::) Dodge Chargers and Big Blocks. You have to understand that most Demoncrats are highly uneducated therefore believe all of the propaganda that is preached to them.
