Because Mexico, like most of the continent, was a Spanish colony. The few (obvious) exceptions are Canada, the USA, Brazil, some Caribbean islands, and a few small countries in Central and South American (Belize, Suriname). There is, however, a very distinct form of Spanish that comes from Mexico.

Actually, every country in Latin America has a very distinct version of Spanish.  If you go to Buenos Aires, you will see that the Spanish sounds very different than the Spanish in Havana.  In addition, not all Latin Americans in the US are from Mexico.  In fact, I would venture to say that, while Mexicans are the majority, they are not a large majority.

Lastly, it should probably be noted that, much like the U.S. there are different people within many of these countries.  Much like you have your WASPS, people of indigenous descent, etc. here in the U.S., you also have that in Latin America.

yep and take the english language. all you have to do is watch swamp people where they are talking english, but they have to have sub titles so the rest of the country can understand them.  the language changes from city to city in the US.

Hey Ponch,

Your stuff here is way better than any Carlos Mencia monolog and humorously educational. You gotta take this to cable TV viejo. The opening shot  is the pix you took for Bull (mariachi music up full)...(music down) announcer intros the show (cut to stage shot of Mariachi guys playing, this is where Ponch climbs down off the stage chain link fence and comes to center front stage from behind the muscians)

"Good evening ladies, gentlemen, pendejos y pendejas welcome to the show. (Ponch sitting in the guest interview area finishing up his lunch of Pollo Mole)....you get the drift

It would be an easy emmy carnale.   :smilielol:

Dear Mexican:

Is it true that the fastest growing segment of small business owners in the U.S. is Mexican?

I don't have hard statistical data to confirm that, but based on the number of paisas that I see pushing ice cream and/or elote (that's corn for you güeros) carts, selling bootleg DVDs, and working as one-time independent construction contractors I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.

well, lawn service is neither here nor there. You see, while a lot of the landscapers are Mexican (and sometimes other form of Hispanic), they usually work for somebody else, so they themselves aren't the owners. On the other hand, the "somebody else" is often a former Mexican landscaper himself who, through years of hard work and frugality, saved enough $ to start his own business and pay others to do the actual work.

That's a lot of elote stands.

In fact, in addition to roofing companies, landscaping companies, framing companies, etc.  there are boatloads of restaurants, hair salons, grocery stores (google "compare foods") as well as the aforementioned "paleta" and "elote" carts.

Its interesting to watch.  These people are contributing billions of dollars to our economy.
