Does anyone have a video of a 68/69/70 Charger rowing through the gears on a 5 speed? Trying to decide on keeping it auto or doing the conversion. I thought it would be interesting to hear and see one shifing at WOT. Thanx guys.

i dont have the video but i can tell you that the 5 speed works very nice and it shifts awesome real tight

Stop by sometime, I'll take you for a ride. You'll be sold.

Seriously, I just got a new digital camera with video capability. I've got a header off the car at the moment, but once I get it back together (in the next couple of days I hope) and the weather permits, I'll shoot an in car video.

NOS is nice, turbo's are neat, but when it comes to Mopars, there's no need to cheat...

I have a 68 with a 440 / 5 speed combo and as previously stated...     it is worth every penny....    with the 440 - the wide ratio transmission seems to work well considering the 440 puts out enough torque to cover the wide gear splits....

I got the car back together today, took it for a test drive and shot a short video.

Unfortunately, due to the time of day (dusk), the in car lighting wasn't good. Also, I just installed new PolyLoc motor mounts which transmit a lot of vibration. My camera mount needs some work.

Weather permitting, I'll shoot another one tomorrow.

I'll need somebody to host the file. My Geocites account will crash after the first download.

BTW, anybody know how to convert a MOV to a MPG file for editing? My camera creates files in MOV format and I can only edit MPGs.

PM or email me with any tips so as not to highjack this thread.

Thanks!

You can run the movies thru windows movie maker and then save them as .mpg format.

Nope. Movie Maker won't open QuickTime files. It's a bitch. Apple and Microsoft just don't play nice.

I've got the file trimmed down to about 3 minutes. Still working on it.

Okay, uploaded an in-car video to YouTube.

For reference, the shift light is set at 5800 rpm (you can see it at the beginning).

I actually went pretty easy on the shifts as I'm still fighting a wheel hop problem (see thread elsewhere). At the end, you get a pretty good demonstration of the problem.

I need to improve my camera mount to get a wider view as well as to stablize it. The new PolyLoc motor mounts aren't helping the situation (vibration). Some interior lighting would help too.

Anyway, here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beU-oPyKqbM

At last check, it was still "processing". Be patient and come back later if necessary.

ENJOY!

For the next installment, I'll recruit a volunteer to shoot a drive by. I'm curious to hear what it sounds like myself! I've always been in the driverseat at anything other than an idle.

Here's some low quality audio at idle: http://www.geocities.com/j_bossman/charger_idle_01.wav

Actually I have lots of video of your car in a drive by already.   I suppose if I were any kind of a friend I'd have sent it all to you by now though.
FWIW, it sounds awful nice blowing past at full song.  :icon_smile_big:
