Hi...

I thought I'd show you guys a few pictures of my project car..
I know I showed some of them in the "Where do you go for parts"- thread, but I thought a formal introduction to the board might be in order...  ;)

I found the car in california, and it will be shipped to Denmark probably mid-late january..

It's a semi restored 1968 Charger R/T, with a 440 engine, with only 7-8 hours on it, since rebuild..
It's gonna take a lot of work to get her right, but I'm really looking forward to it..

Here's a few more...

The VIN is the Vehicle Identification Number which is on the top of the dash.  The 2nd digit of "P" indicates a "plain" charger and an "S" indicates a "RT".

Ahh...

Sort of a serialnumber, with information about the car..?

I haven't got a clue what the number is, but I'll mail the guy who found it for me, and ask him...

Thanks..

So "P" is an R/T and "S" is plain...?

Is there somewhere you can se what each number/letter means...?

No, no318 had it right. "XS" is an R/T and "XP" is a base model.

I really need to get the VIN decoder put back up on the site.

congradulations and welcome in any case!

this is a great pladce to learn the intricate details of the best lookin car in the world...  :yesnod:

(ask lots of dumb questions these guys love that kind'a stuff  :shruggy:  )

THE CHARGER PUNK

Xp means it was a base car that came with a slant/6,318 or a 383 and it came with the emblems that are on your car, Now if it says XS that means its an R/T which came stock with the 440 or option 426 hemi and it came with big R/T emblems on the front and back unlike your car
(NO REAR STRIPE ON BASE XP CARS)

BASE(XP29)

R/T(XS29)

no no check here s would be a standard or special
http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-vin-decoder.php?VIN=Xp29R9G145297
The number you put in is impossible in 1969. You had to get the R/T package for the Hemi to be an option. Just because the VIN decoder allows you to make up a VIN doesn't mean it's real. I know someone will chime in about the promo cars but those weren't production.

In 69 all Charger VIN numbers started with "XP", "XS", or "XX". The base model cars (XP) could come with a slant 6, 318, or 383 (2 or 4 bbl). The R/T (XS) included the 440 as the standard engine with the only option being the 426 Hemi. The R/T also had a beefier suspension and special badging. Cars with an XX VIN were either a 500 or Daytona. All XX cars started with the same platform as an R/T so the only engines would have been the 440 or Hemi.

The red 68 above has a 8 3/4 rear, It was my understanding that in 1968 the R/T's all had Dana 60  :icon_smile_question:
My brothers 68 was a 4-speed with a bolted axle from the mid 60's and everyone told him it should have a dana. his VIN was XS29L8...
Have you seen my old '69 Charger??

I think the most knowledgeable people about Chargers is right here!!!  Some of these people have so much literature about them  and probably have these books memorized  page by page.    Your friend  most likely isn't going to have the knowledge that is in this forum.
