Hey everyone!
Haven't been on in a while.

My question is do they make a 1 bolt gear drive system for Mopar? Does it exist?  Everything I see for Mother Mopar is for a 3 bolt cam gear.

Unfortunately I have a MP cam in my 383 and I believe it's a 1 bolt design.  If anyone can set me straight on this 1 bolt 3 bolt thing, i'd appreciate it.

Is the engle k56 a 3 bolt design?

thanks

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

My 383  has a 1 bolt design,  but I think 440  has the 3.  Three is better anyway.   I'm not sure if there would be a difference between a 440  and a 440 HP...someone else will have to chime in on that one

Thanks for the response.

I want to add that my reason for asking this is because I want to add a gear drive vice timing chain.  I like the noise of loud whining metal.  I know you can appreciate that one  :METAL: :METAL: :METAL:

All the gear drives that I can find say specifically 3 bolt system.

Hey Mike...how ya been ? Nice to see ya back here.  :icon_smile_big:

I've never seen a single bolt upper gear for a gear drive application. Engle can grind you whatever you want on a 3 bolt blank....just let them know when you order the cam.  :yesnod:

Hey Ron, Thanks for remembering me :icon_smile_big:

Ok my ignorance is going to really show here cause I think I'm not explaining myself correctly so everyone forgive me.  Or maybe I'm just wacked cause I don't know what i'm talking about.

I imagine if I just change the cam to the engle k56 as ron suggested some time ago my problems will be solved because I can buy any  gear drive(since they all seem to be for 3 bolt cams....jegs, prw, etc...). I haven't called engle yet but i'm guessing they come with the 3 bolt setup.   My existing cam is an MP 484 which I believe is the one bolt design?(at least that's how it's described on summit).  I'm believing after much research, they don't offer a gear drive that supports the one bolt deal.  Good enough.

I was just trying to get away with using my existing cam for now since it's still pretty fresh, but i'll just do everything at once... k56, lifters, gear drive, chrome timing cover
(got on ebay for $9), aluminum water pump and housing(does it really make that much difference between alum and stock iron).   Any suggestions on brand of gear drive, are they all pretty much the same?  Louder the better.  Also, any suggestions on what else i should do when I tear the top half apart? springs, rockers, diiferent manifold, etc....?

my existing setup is a 383 pretty much stock except for the cam, holley 750 hp, edelbrock perf 383 intake, msd 7.  I'm sure I should just leave the motor alone but why not squeeze everything I can out of it and I learn a ton in the process from everyone here and by doing the job.
Any suggestions are helpful and I appreciate everyone's time and patience as always.
Thanks

Hey Mike, I put the MP cam in my 383. It's a one bolt cam. I dont like mine. I think it's too much cam for a low compression motor but I bought it years ago before I did my research.

I just pulled apart a 440 (68 motor) that I am sending out for a good stroking and that too was a one bolt cam. It was a completely stock motor.

Why are you replacing your cam? Is it NOT working for you???

Most hyd cams come with a single bolt but you can specify 3 bolt when ordering up a new stick. Honestly, the 284 cam is too big for a street driven 383 unless you have lotsa gear and stall. The k56 will be much more street friendly and responsive at low engine speeds. As for the valvesprings, assuming they're fresh with the cam swap....you should be good to go.

The alum housing and waterpump saves a few pounds of weight, but isn't really necessary for a street car, inmo. Pete Jackson is the most common name when it comes to geardrives allthough i believe Milidon also makes them as well.

Good to go then, I'll be sticking with the iron h2o  housing cause it's a street car.  I need to put an external temp gauge and my plug won't come out on mine so i'm getting a new housing.(tracking on ebay) Believe me it won't come out.

Mike in PA, my cam works just fine but I want a gear drive, so I'm gonna have to switch cams to make it happen and I know the k56 will do the job even better(thanks ron)  The problem with the MP is super low vac and we all know that isn't a good deal.

That's why my MP Purple Shaft was thrown in the dumpster.....Engle K56......I maintain a constant 20 psig on the vacuum gauge  at idle with it.   More off-idle response as well.

i got my geardrive from 440sorce.  dont know if its good or not, cause i havent had the engine running yet. it was around $115 with shiping and tax. it looked like a good deal. it came with a ofset keys and just  about eveything else i needed. it is 3 bolt. never seen a 1 bolt ever. :scope:

my cam came from engle.  when i ordered it,he asked me if i wanted it in a 1 or 3 bolt.  so i guess its how you order it. :stirthepot:
