While not being a big fan of his music, but living in his home town of Augusta, Ga, for the last twenty five years, I have come to appreciate his contribution to our musical history.  He was quite a colorful character, both on and off the stage.............J

A few  things I learned yesterday on a local talk show that had 5 of his closest friends and show members,  he was actually 78, most had him at 73. The story, when he was young, he got in to trouble with the law and knew he would have a better chance in juvenile court. Being  small and looking younger, they bought it.    Once, Michale Jackson came to him and told him ,he would like to produce a record for James.  James told him you can't do a record for me, son, and tell your tailor he is cutting your pants way to short...........ha ha.. lots of funny stuff.............J

 according to his autobiography the "hardest wroking man in show biz" who had his first hit in 1956 with Please Please Please,.. was dirt poor, his mom left when he was seven years old and he was arrested for stealing clothes from an unlocked automobile in his early teens and he kept his nose clean intill relitivly recently...
He advanced Rythem and Blues more than most folks appreciate.

I feel good and I want to say it loud that he was a sex machine while he was living in America and remember, papa's got a brand new bag!!

Well, when you're hopped up on something 24/7 you can work pretty hard from what I understand. I always thought the guy was pretty much a freak but he had some good songs.

I love James Brown & you could learn something from the man. His first nationwide top ten hit, Please, Please, Please was released in 1956 along with both Elvis's and George Clinton's first hits and can be concidered the begining of Rock as we know it.
His hit "living in america" was in the late '80s. looong after Elvis had gone to the Big lounge act in the sky... 
J.B. had a extreamly successful string of radio stations and went on the air to help quell riots in the '60s. used children of all races in I'm Black and I'm proud. His LIVE at the Apollo!" is concidered the prototypical LIVE Album. the his line up of mucisians and the soloists, horn sections and the innovation he spearheaded can't be overstated.
  of course as a band leader he was unsurpassed.
