Cabover and conventional.

In any case, the preview ruined the movie for me.

I was into it until I saw that roboy come out of the backyard swimming pool.  NO WAY a robot that big could disappear into a backyard pool.  That would be like me getting in a regular bathtub.

Don't forget there are different sizes of transformers... Bumblebee was very much smaller that Optimus who was also larger than the standard autobot. There was a big problem with the transformers changing sizes in the cartoons and so this movie tried to fix that. They figured out if a robot turned into a truck, it could only be so tall, etc. It's like any comic to movie though, they've changed some things.

You read my mind, bro!

The movie-makin' magic is just about there.

In fact, if the transformation scenes are believable in, "Transformers", I say it's time to fast track a, "Robotech", movie.

Just saw this movie.  So awesome.   Car enthusiast's movie, same guy is Optimus Prime's voice as cartoon when we were younger.  Its funny and the battle scenes? .. .  the way they transform when they fight, the looks of the robots, etc., way cool.  All GM stuff, but just makes me look more forward to seeing the new Challenger driving around when they are released.

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

There were a lot of older people in the audience at the early preview show who saw the cartoon when they were younger maybe, heh, is transformers popular with young kids today?   :shruggy:

Some of the car shots in this flick (the Bumblebee stuff, the side-two-wheel balancing shots, etc.) were actually done by "Dukes of Hazzard" stunt crew members.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The filmmakers seemed to have been committed to making a decent action movie with this.  But IMHO, they really over-stylized the robots.  The way they ended up doing the robots, there's essentially no visual link between the "vehicle" mode and the "robot" mode at all.

(And the total change to Optimus Prime was inexcusable!  OP in particular is an absolutely iconic image for the Transformers.  I mean, you don't give Darth Vader a purple outfit just because you think he needs updating.)

I was a big transformer fan as a kid...  I really was impressed with the movie and didn't mind the changes to the characters.  I think they should have stayed away from the lame humor and maybe saved it for the credits.  A little is ok but they took some to far and too often...

This ticket is only $69.00 ?  If I'd have known that I'd have been going FASTER !

bull

I saw the movie today and thought it was pretty good. I have very little knowledge of the Transformers because I was about 18 when they made their debut and by then I was busy terrorizing the streets in my '70 Charger back home. Even during the past 20 years I paid little attention to the Transformers so today I watched it as a sci-fi fan and was thoroughly impressed. It's one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen.

That has got to be the most disappointing movie I've seen in a long time !!

My fault for not seeing a trailer or preview first   :icon_smile_dissapprove:

3/4 of the movie was centered around people [ live ones, not even cartoons ] .
It was filled with all kinds of cliches - to name a few...
   Geek Kid gets hot girlfriend
Hot girlfriend says car has "double pumper carb", but the engine shot is of a fuel injected car
   no real civilian casualties
Bad guys disrupt everyones communications yet a figther strike is called in.
   Government conspiracy, etc

The CGI effects for the Transformations were good.  And the first battle scene.  But the whole "we love humans" crud, please....
They never introduced any Transformer characters other than the main three [ well , they did for about 1 second]
In the fight scenes you couldn't tell which Transformer was fighting which other transformer.
Of course the good humans have unlimited ammo somehow.
I think they had a budget and tried to stretch 2+ hours of movie out of it.
As mentioned before - a lot of lame predictable humor.
Where were the Energon cubes ?

I wish I could smack the screenplay writer  :icon_smile_big:

I would have been happier watching 4  original 1/2 hour TV cartoons back to back.

I still have to go see it. I am, after all, in the target geographic group (guys in their mid to late 20's who religiously watched the cartoons back in the 80's). I won't go anywhere near a theater at least till Sunday - right now I'd rather avoid the throngs of fanboys and 7 year olds....

I like the idea for a live action Robotech movie.

Of course the plot is lame and the story has more holes in it than an A-10 target after two passes but you have to take it for what it is.

A group of us went to see it last night. Guess I'm not in that target demographic. Sure the CGI parts were great and effects can now pass as real. As for a movie, I'd give it a 4 or so out of 10. Makes Pirates of the Caribbean look like Citizen Kane.

And yes Brock, I do remember Thunderbirds. How about Stingray or Fireball XL5? :icon_smile_big:

I saw it with the wife last night.... all I have to say was un fu*^&^ing believable. I grew up with the things and loved the movie. Even my wife enjoyed it.

I could go on but i'll just stop with I loved the effects...enjoyed the non stop action, laughed at the humor... and just plain enjoyed myself.
