Need some tip on polishing trim.  I bought a 8" two wheel polisher and some pads.  I'm ready to get started tomorrow.  Any good tips?  Do's or Don'ts

I have one....stay away from wheels unless it's a tiny handheld grinder type that allows you to polish the piece laying flat.  DO NOT hold the peice in your hand and bring it into the wheel.  The wheel can pick it up, bend it, send it flying or all of the above.

I like to use mothers stainless polish on a steel wool pad and then finish it with a soft rag.  Does wonders.

My shop has a ss polisher but we only use it on trim that is really bad , for the most part we clamp a regular electric buffer in the vise slap a wool pad on itand polish on....oh by the way we use 3m super duty rubbing compound to do the trim ....finally we finish them by hand with a cotton towel and some FLITZ

i was taught to hold it and bring it into the wheel. you just gotta be careful about it. I havent had a problem at all doing it this way for years.

Yup, that's my point.  Too risky for such rare pieces.  I polished up 4 pieces on the wheel nicely, got to my rear check molding and it got away from me.  Since then, I use the steel wool and polish, nice results and it's safe.  To each his own...

One pad, one compound.  If you change the compound, change the pad.

steel woll and some labor works best.

Yep, used all their supplies exclusively and followed their instructions.  All my trim came out great.  Always get asked "who did your trim?"
