spindle removal

how difficult is it to remove a spindle from a 72 charger? I bought my parts car yesterday and i need the spindles off of it tommorow, i havn't had a chance to take a real close look at it....what tools will i need?

just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,

Mopar Madness

 If you have never removed spindles on Mopar before, believe me saftey is an issue. Torsion Bar cars are under tremendous load.
You need to release some pressure off the lower control arms by looking under the control arm and you will see a bolt coming out between the control arm. Back it off untill it is just showing thru the plate it is screwed into.
   Now using a BIG Floor Jack you need to place it under the end of the control arm closest to the end right at the lower ball joint. Raise the jack untill  you see the car start to lift. Pressure is now off, but leave the jack completley alone untill finished.
    If this is Drum brakes remove everything just like you were replacing the brakes. The backing plate has 4 bolts 2 small ones on top, 2 big ones on the bottom, all have cotter pins on the back side. However all at this time you need to do is remove the 2 big ones on the bottom. I believe they are 7/8" heads, 15/16" nuts on the back. And they are tight, air hammer will get them right out, using a 1/2 breaker bar and ratchet may take some time.
When you remove the bottom 2 bolts you can swing the spindle out, which makes it easier to take the nut off the upper ball joint and seperate it with a fork for removal from the upper control arm.
Again for saftey sake, make sure you are doing this on a concrete surface, and a Very Strong Floor jack, do not attempt to do this with a scissors jack, or one of those small portable jacks.

i was afraid you'd say i needed to have it on concrete, .... the car is sitting in the middle of an old chicken coop with muddy floors :P ... oh well ,i'll think of something
