I for one am interested in seeing the "cheapie" way of modifying the 440 crank to make a 451, thanks for offering.

Just got one question on your "Cheapie" stroker..Did you turn down the main journals, or Align bore the 400 block to get that 440 crank in there?
If you turned down the cranks mains, what about induction hardening of the first .005 or so of the main journals?
" I have spent thousands of dollars and countless hours researching what works and what doesn't and I'm willing to share"

I always just turn down the Main Journals to 400 Size, with the addition of an .080 radius Filet(stronger), instead of MaMopars "Rolled Filet"(weaker).

Boring a 400 Main out to 440 Size, would defeat the advantage of the "extra" meat in the 400 cap.
You see, the 400 & 440 main Caps are Identical Size physically, just the 440 Main Cap has a "Bigger" Hole in it for the 440 main size.

So, from the above, "2 Birds with 1 Stone"
Crank is Stronger with the .080" Filet Radius
Block/Main Cap advantage strength-wise of the 400 Block is retained.

The first few I did I hard Nitride hardened.
After those few, I never worried about it with LITERALLY dozens, and NEVER had a problem.
Didn't make much sense to continue with the Hardening, when we were Grinding Cranks .010/,010  every Day, and not having any hardening Issues ?

Your are correct, in that doesn't matter the process, Induction, Nitriding, whatever, the "hardening" only penetrates a few thou.
So what happens when you gring a stock factory 440 crank .010 ?
It obviously isn't "junk" for a performance build now is it ?

Hope this explains things
Bob out.
