I have family North of New Orleans.  My family here have been thinking about going down there to help out somehow.
I love my 1970 Dodge Charger R/T Clone

Alot of the crew here on the Deep Seas is greatly affected by her. Several flew in today to see if their houses still exist. A few have no idea if their families made it out or tried to ride it out. Likely those affected cannot reply due to no utilities.

I get to drive through it Thursday enroute to Houston, the helicoptor is dropping us off just North of Leeville LA, and we will have a rent a car (driven from Houston by our reliefs). Not looking forward to this little trip.

Here is a self taken photo of me with Katrina 130 miles from us. Saw 20-24 foot seas and gust to 60 knots. Closest it got to the ship was 120 miles or so, we were on the West side of it fortunately. Ship rolled a max of about 7 degrees, we just stayed bow into the combined swells for the best ride. Thankfully for us, it turned as predicted else we would have had a tougher time.

Prayers for all touched by this event.

I believe Danny is located close to the LA/TX boarder in Sulphur. I don't believe the folks way out there got anything as severe as areas around New Orleans.

problem is,  folks who are affected are probably not chatting on a muscle car site now, even if they have a home left with a working computer..

Seems every part of the country has its own brand of natural disasters from time to time. We in the NW are always getting floods and the looming threat of volcanoes. Hurricanes really seem to be pounding the south one after another this year for some reason. The only way I'm affected is with the stupid, trite and annoying news coverage. Hopefully the worst is over for everyone down there.

My parents evacuated Destin, FL, but it doesn't look like much of anything hit that far east.  'Course they turn tail and run any time the wind gusts...

I sincerely hope everything in New Orleans will be cleaned up and brought back under control soon.  And note to the rest of the world: remember how ya'll said we didn't give "enough" to Thailand after the tsunami?  How 'bout showing US what "enough" is?

A customer of mine is manufacturing down there.   No commissions for some time!

Received this yesterday.

Dear XXXXX Supplier,

As a result of Hurricane Katrina and the mandatory evacuation order, XXXXXXXXXXX two manufacturing facilities in New Orleans and in XXXXX, Louisiana have been temporarily closed.   Current conditions are affecting our ongoing effort to assess these facilities.   As soon as we are able to begin this process at both sites we will be requesting your assistance in facilitating our assessment.

Accordingly you are hereby requested to suspend all shipments to XXXXX until further notice.     Once we have assessed the damage and have a better understanding of the situation we will advise as soon as possible.   Although we are asking that shipments be suspended, you are directed to continue working on XXXXXX work orders and adhere to schedules currently in place. It is most important you keep going.

We are committed to resuming operations as quickly as reasonably possible, while maintaining our very high safety standards.

Should the above direction present undue issues or if you have any questions about this notification please contact XXXXXXX at XXX-XXX-XXXX or myself. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

We are all affected. Look at the prices of gas!!!! I heard that by this weekend the gas will be $ .50/gallon more! You will see $ 4.00 per gallon real soon. Last night on the way home my wife called me and said to gas up the truck because gas was going up $ .17 per gallon as per the news. I saw it at $ 2.65 by me on the way home. Got home took some spare 5 gallon containers I had in the garage and headed to the gas station. By the time I got there the $ 2.65 price was up to $ 2.85 in less than ten minutes. I thinks someone is piggy backing on the disaster and price gouging!! :flame:

On the subject of looting, where is the National Guard? I would of thought that they would of mobilized them immediately. My prayers go to all the people that have lost everything, including love ones. :'(

Hey guys, It's me Dan the Man!!  We were very fortunate here in the soutwestern part of LA.  We hardly got a sprinkle from the hurricane.  Travis lives in Baton Rouge and they had wind and rain, but were spared the worst of it.  I hope he's OK.  All of our hotels in the area are full and we still have refugees coming in to the area looking for places to stay.  Authorities have set up shelters around the area to help some of the travelers out.  At work last night (L'auberge Du Lac Casino) we had people coming in begging for rooms.  Many people ended up sleeping on couches and chairs out in the lobby areas.  I have friends who worked at some of the casinos in New Orleans and Mississippi and they now have no jobs or homes to go back to.  It's a mess down here guys, and it's only gonna get worse before it gets better.  Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.

Perhaps the immediate jump is unwarranted (perhaps), but let's remember that about 25% of the nation's refining facilities are in this area and very much affected.  Gas is indeed going to get more expensive, but you can't argue with mother nature.

The immediate jump IS unwarranted as the gas that the retailers have raised the price on is already in the tanks on their property.  The increase in the per barrel price of oil is forecasted for October delivery.
