Hood pin clips??

OK, had a conversation over the weekend with an experienced resto guy (Vance) who questioned my earlier thought that all Daytonas used the lay-down hood pin clip.  He said there are more than a few cars which used the stand-up clip similar to those used on a 6-pack A12 car.  I mentioned that I don't remember seeing any original cars with those, and he said to look at the pictures taken from the rooftop at Creative Industries for just such a thing.  So, I looked - and sure 'nuff there they are...

The picture below is cropped from one of the often-posted photos, but the glare keeps me from saying with any degree of certainty about the other cars.  Maybe some of you guys more versed at examining photos can change the contrast settings and see whats up on the other cars.  Based on that one pic though, it doesn't appear that ALL cars had the lay down pins.   :scope:

What's the consensus opinion 'round here?

I have never seen them on a 'Tona but maybe there were a few. Notice the 12 o'clock screw down?

What's the size of Superbirds? I would assume, since they never reached forward and under the leading edge of the hood, that a Daytona's lanyard would be much shorter than a 'Bird...

I have two sets of original lanyards from Daytonas, and they're all 18" long.  Frank Badalson's repro's (very nice, BTW) are 18" long as well.

Hemigeno,,,Ihave 3-4 pic, up close of hood pins as well as screw location. I just go to the ole green car book, for that kind of stuff.

Jim,

Your green car is a treasure-trove for reference, no doubt.  Danny has posted pictures of your car's hood pins and bezels a few times and that's been very helpful.  I used to have several reference pics taken myself when you had the car at TDC/Jefferson City and at one of the Survivor tent displays (think maybe at Carlisle in 2006 or 7?) but lost all of them in a hard drive crash.  :brickwall:

One thing that has puzzled me about your green car is that the bezels show wear from the hood pins in both directions... as if the pins used to be turned one way, and were turned 90 degrees by someone for at least a while.  Which then begs the question, which way was it originally installed?   :shruggy:

If memory serves, your F5 car has flat hood pin clips.  I'm wondering if any Daytonas which may have had stand-up clips had them replaced with flat ones by a subsequent owner who thought they were incorrect based on the majority of other cars they saw?

Both of my cars had the criss cross marks fron the pins being rotated 90 degrees. I guess people just played with the stuff - or took them off for whatever reason then put them on the other way. I asked FB about the stand-up pins shown in the Creative pic. He noticed that years ago but has never seen them on a car. Maybe Chrysler provided the A12 style from inventory but had them change them when the lay-down style inventory showed up. Since only (to my knowledge) A12's used that clip and all 70 models and up used the lay-down style, maybe engineering made the change because of some issue or maybe the others were half the money!?!
