ok so my friend is going to this technical program we got at school...hes taking auto motive... they didnt let me in... and i still dont know y... but let me get to the point... ok so he was looking through all the engines that they had in the back... and he found a 440 he ask his teacher to see wat was wrong with it and to see if he could get it...so the teacher told that he can have it for like 50-100 bucks... but the engine is seized... i wanted to know if its saveable..i think the block is perfectly fine and i think a engine rebuild should do the trick since its just the crank i can jsut get the crank... but being beginners i looking for your advice ... he was also saying that since its seized we have to bore it out..... i was like wat for??? but he couldnt explain either... so is a seized 440 savable??? do i have to bore it out to make it run??? and are 440 cranks plentiful??

depends if it's seized at the crank, or stuck in the cylinder.  If it's stuck, you'll most likely need to rebore.  If it's seized and the walls are fine, you need to get the crank ground.

i think its just seized at the crank but ill find out

If it's been exposed to the elements, it can also seize just from sitting. If enough crap gets built up in the cylinders, that can stick the piston in the cylinder bore quite well. Depending on how far oversized the bore is, it should be rebuildable still.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

I'd bore it, align bore it and put in a new set of pistons and crank kit.   Sure!!!  it's very salvageable!!!

Chryco Psycho

most can be saved as long as the rust is niot excessive in the cylinders

Even if there is excessive rust on the cylinder walls....it can be bored out to house a sleeve  in each cylinder....I know that some people  I've met.....even though their blocks would clean up at .030...they have had the cylinders re-sleeved just so they could maintain factory specs to a "T"....some people are really anal about that.   .060   is about as much of an overbore that can be done safely.    I've heard stories of overheating issues being overbored that much...and I've heard stories that they ran fine, so I guess that aspect of it is a crap shoot.

I have measured thinwalll mid 70s blocks that had over .300 thick cylinder walls & I have seen a 60s block that was under .120 with no over bore
.125 on the load side of the bore is considered minimum so with .300 thick walls the block could be bored .350 over in theory & still have minimum .125 thickness
