i have always wondered if you need complete water protection for door speakers.  Did you cover the back side of the speakers with anything?

Good point - water definitely can get back there, so if you didn't, you should!  I know there are companies that make foam baffles you can put behind the speaker to insulate them.  Also baffles the backwave somewhat for better sound, and they're cheap, too

They're soft enough that you can squeeze them to fit other sizes - looking at yours  Ithink those are 4x6's, so you should be able to use 5" baffles pretty easily

Having said that, the amount of water going in a door is probably pretty minimal, so it may not matter anyway...

Or, if you don't expose your car to rain, forget about it

......................but, there are other ways to go.  someone on here, maybe 70 charginglizard?, put speakers in his door panels, but he cut everything out of th back except for the finished vinyl.  cannot tell they are there at all, looked sweet.

The speakers are actually in front of the windows. If you look at the wood backing plates the diagonal cut is to accommodate

the window track that it butts up against. Its almost a perfect spot. The speakers are pretty slim but you could put some very

deep speakers in this location if needed.

The car will never see rain again (hopefully). And even if it did the holes are so small on the back of the speakers that even if you dumped buckets of water down it I dont think it would matter.  Plus the speakers are in front of the window track so even less water, if it did get down there would actually fall on the speakers.

And I do have some speaker back covers which I bought to try to enhance the sound, not protect from rain.

They sound horrid. Makes the speakers sound like they are in a box.  So I didnt use them for more than testing.


I spent a bunch of time on them and actually tried 4 different speakers in that spot.

A set of Sonys, Infiniti, Alpine and the Polk, which sounded the best to me.

I also put in a set of Alpine 6 x 9's in the back And I will post pictures later if I remember.

At some point the car is going to have some subs in it.

But Im having a hard time finding exactly what Im looking for.

It will prolly end up being some Solo-baric 8" or 10".

Im looking for some VERY hard hitting subs that are punchy and sound great for Classic rock and country.

More audiophile, and less boom boom.

But at the same time take little space.

his speaker is ahead of the track the thing to worry abot is if the crank clears and it looks like he has some pretty flush grilles ....by the way even though i would never mount speakers in a charger door ill give you crdit it does look good and will fool people who dont know they arent suppossed to be there

I've now got several of their amps and subs between the WRX and the charger, and they are really awesome. They just released the SQ10 subs that have a 3" deep mounting depth, recommended undersize box is .3 ft^3 - even the ideal size is .5 ft^3 (so a pair would work ideally in a 1 cubic foot box), and they price at $55 each.  ED has really shocked me since I've started using them - they price like a budget brand, but they sound easily as good as any of the kicker stuff I used to have (and I took a set of 4 kicker 12's to USAC finals in '95 )

looks good, almost factory looking. 70chargeinglizard did a topic about installing door speakers in his charger behind the door panels. He did an awesome job fromwhat I remember.

I previously installed remote door locks and the kit for that included some flexible rubber tubes to use in the door jam area.

And I suspect you could find something like that at any auto parts store.

Thanks guys. I scoured the yard and found some really nice accordian-style plugs from a 90's Pontiac mini-van. They look PERFECT on the Charger. I'll take some pics.
