newbie section

I had an Idea for a newbie section so new members have a place to introduce themselves ? a lot of other site's got them.

Then it's not really an original idea is it?

I have three issues with creating a new section for that:
1. It takes up even more space on the front page which adds to the clutter and displaces other sections which may need higher priority.
2. Existing members are more likely to see a new member posts in the General Discussion or Off Topic areas and welcome them. It would be very convenient to skip over the New Member section.
3. We really don't get that many new member threads. This may change over time though so I'll have to keep evaluating to see if it becomes necessary.

It would possibly be a good place to put frequently asked questions and general forum rules but I've learned that people just don't read those any way.
