Whats your Opinion on these things? Who ownes one? what can you tell me are the pro's / Cons of these cars. I can't get over the hangup that they are polished up Neons. But the price on them isn't too bad for what i'm looking for.

Good on Gas
Fairly Quick

American

Things I don't like

It's a Neon

Pro's.  Cheap, fast, sporty, good gas milage, small size makes it easier to park, handles well.

Con's.  4 banger, FWD, it's a Neon, small size makes for small interior.

I wouldn't take one, but I respect them.

I'd go for a 2 door Stratus if I were you. A much more attractive looking car and if gas milage is an issue you can always downgrade to a 4 banger. althought I'm going to the v6.

My mom drives a 2 door Stratus. Cool car. V-6 Auto. She loves it :yesnod:

Even with the V-6, it runs, what, 15s?  You can get the SRT-4 cheaper, and it's about 2 seconds faster.  The only thing the Stratus has on the SRT-4 is looks.

A good buddy of mine has one. That car is damn quick, for a 4 banger. Its fast than a wrx stock vs stock. It doesn't take a lot of work to get them into the 12's either.

I work at the track and you can expect them things to run in the 13s with little tuning. I can't say that I am crazy about the looks, but.... Your Charger better be tuned up if you are running one.

When I get the next car I'll get an SRT4 that has been hit in the rear end and put a two door rear clip, doors, and a bolt in roll cage   on it.Also put a stock hood   and decklid on it and make a sleeper out of it and do the needed upgrades and kick most everybody's ass.If gas is $4.00 per gallon I doubt that many of us are going to feed a big block on a daily basis. :icon_smile_angry: :flame: They may be butt ugly but so were the early 60s Dodges and they could put you back on the trailer pretty easy. It's just history repeating itself.

I've seen 450 hp neons but I haven't seen a 450 hp stratus (yet). All I'm sayin' is there's a bigger aftermarket for the 4 cyl neons than the 6 cyl stratus/intrepids/etc. If you don't mind the cramped quarters, go with the srt-4.

Where are you going to get them?  They stopped making 2 door Neons when they stopped making the first gen in 99.  SRT-4s are 2nd gen Neon based.

Key word: "earlier" which is why it was questioned. It will be a lot of work I think but probably possible. An engine swap may be easier though. Pictures and information might help...

The 2000 Neon looks similar to the old one, but all the bodywork is new. Those ovoid headlamps continue to be a key styling cue, but they've been redesigned with jewel-like reflectors that add sophistication. The design of the front fascia is more integrated. A new tail lamp design along with more pronounced wheel arches offer a crisp, less rounded look. Most noticeable is the change in profile. The base of the front windshield has been moved forward 3 inches. This major design change gives the car a more raked, cab-forward appearance that's in keeping with the Dodge Intrepid and other Chrysler sedans. The more aerodynamic windshield shape improves the car's ability to deflect water away and it helps reduce wind noise.

Overall, the new Neon is longer and wider than before. It rides on a longer wheelbase with a slightly wider track (the distance between the front wheels). These changes make for a roomier interior, but they also smooth out the ride quality and increase stability at high speeds. The ground clearance has been raised slightly to accommodate longer suspension travel, which further improves ride quality. Yet the floor pan has been lowered, which significantly increases trunk space. The new Neon provides more cargo space than the Ford Escort or Saturn SL sedans.

The new body structure is much more rigid, which ultimately results in a smoother, quieter, more controlled ride. Full frame doors reduce wind noise and create a tighter seat of door to body. The latest sound-deadening technology helps isolate the cabin from engine and road noise.
