I noticed that the thermostate isn't tight in the housing when bolted to the water pump .I had to make a thick gasket in the chrome housing so the thermostate would be tight in place when installed with gasket that comes with the thermostate.I think some water was getting by causing thermostate not to work propertly.

The chrome housings are junk, they arch up and leak. The old ones are way better. :icon_smile_big:

I think several people have had problems with those things. (Didn't CudaKen used to complain about them all the time?) They never seem to seal right. I'm not sure why though.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

because chrome is not applied evenly. Thats why you see some cars with chrome wheels leak air all the time. Chrome starts to peel off and air seeps through where it peeled off, since surface uneven.

I have never used a Chrome stat housing, but I have one that came with a car I bought long ago. I noticed that the housing has not got a seat for the stat. It can float around in the housing. This will be a problem for anyone using it.

I have no idea what brand it is, but have heard the same thing about chrome housings for years. JUNK.....

My chrome stat housing would leak. Finally one day I took it off and checked it for squareness. The middle of the flat seating surface was warped bad enough to see by eye. I resurfaced it and it hasn't leaked since. The stat still floats around in there. I don't really see that as being a really bad thing. It may take a little longer too warm up, no big deal.

Put the chrome housings on a belt sander (or use the caveman method of putting a piece of sandpapoer on the ground) and sand the bottom of the housing - you'll notice the houtside edges (there the bolt holes are) will get sanded before the center....    after i do that no more leakies....
