In Iowa, state law does not allow you to do any title search on your registered vehicle. Sux..I want to find previous owners of my car and any history I can. Got any ideas the best way to obtain this info??

If you have any dealership info like a tag they may be able to help.

How about Carfax.  Supposedly, you provide them with your VIN number and they provide you with the vehicles history.  Not sure precisely what info you get.  And I think it costs something like $25.  They have a law like that in Georgia or at least they supposedly did.  I think the used car dealers got it put thru so you can't check the history of the junkers they buy at the auction to sell.  In TN, the same crowd got a law passed that says you can't put a sign on your car and try to sell it any place but your private property.  They didn't like the cars lined up on vacant lots for sale that competed with them.   And they admitted as much to the local newspaper.

Yea, I tried using Carfax on a Charger VIN and it said it wasn't long enough.

I believe carfax only goes back to cars  15 years old or less......they told me they didnt go back any further than '85

carfax needs a 17 digit vin to work,i did one on my wifes camaro, which was freaking worthless,it showed tittle history back to 90,nothing earlier.i have been trying to find a way to check older vins and so far came up blank-let me know if you find anything that works :yesnod:

Carfax doesn't provide names of previous owners on newer cars...it will show title transfer dates and the location though.
