Their first music video was "One" in 1989.
I don't know that I'll buy the DVD since I have most of their videos downloaded and have all of their albums on vinyl and also have them on CD so I can listen to them and see their videos anytime I want, not to mention all the other Metallica crap I have. I'll probably just borrow it from a friend or something.

They were cool once, but now they're just a bunch of whiny old bitches.  How can you be a hardcore metal band, and then cry when people actually want to share your music with others.

I was a HUGE Metallica fan (I have seen them 7 times live)  and I still love their older stuff, but St. Anger was one of the worst metal albums I have ever heard (KONK, KONK, KONK..got I hate that snare drum) and the 'Some Kind of Monster' movie made me want to hurl my guts out. Seeing Metallica being followed around by some worthless psychologist and having them constantly crying and hugging each other was enough to make me get on my knees and pray to god to make it all stop.  :rotz:

I pray for the return of the Metallica I saw in '93 when they had no openers and they kicked a$$ for 3 1/2 hours and they actually let Kirk Hammett play a solo. But I fear that band is long gone.  Just my  :Twocents:

Metallica To Begin Recording Their New Album Next Month:
Metallica have more than two dozen song ideas ready for the follow-up to 2003's "St. Anger", which they expect begin recording next month for a late summer/fall release via Warner Bros. The CD is being produced by Rick Rubin, who has previously worked with Audioslave, Slayer, Slipknot, System Of A Down, And Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Lets hope it doesnt suck as bad as St. Anger did.

Well, if Rick Rubin is producing it, there is an outside chance it might be good. It is about time they ditched Bob Rock.

Its mostly Lars Ulrich that's the dick in the band I guess he's just a greedy guy.
and as far as kirk hammet not playing solos in St.Anger it wasnt his choice, the guy wanted to play 'em
but bob rock and lars were like "nah its not what most bands are doing these days".
I think its a good thing on this new album bob rock isnt producing it, I didnt hate the st.anger album like most people do, it was just something different, it kinda reminded me of old black sabbath,
the way the songs would change up right in the middle and then go back to the main riff.
A band cant stay the same forever and if they did it would start to get kinda boring dont you think?
so, yeah, st.anger was okay, but im ready for them to tune their guitars back up to standard or at least half a step down because the st.anger was tuned soooo low it was something like drop c
and then half a step down,i dunno, im not a guitar player i cant remember it exactly.
anyways, i just hope this next album is kickass back like the ones with Cliff Burton
(god rest his soul) although ...And Justice For All was a gnarly album and he wasnt on that one.

Chryco Psycho

I loved Metallica in the old days "& justice" has to one of the best Cds of all time but I no longer care
Napster is theft , no arguement But how much $$ do you realy need , it is not like they are starving !!  Suing your fans leaves a bad taste in my mouth [Eagles did it too]
so from the black album I have bought nothing & pirated nothing from them , I have never heard St Anger & never will, I am patient & will wait for the next band that will push the limits like "& justice" did
So Long Metallica  :nana:

I loved metallica when they were a true metal band, and even tollerated the black album altho it was the sign of an end and only about half of it was decent. LOAD lived up to its name! a load of crap, the only CD ive ever bought and thrown away. S and M was a breef recovery and the only cool thing they have done in 15 years.

on the napster and file shairing arguement, how many of you have ever seen the video "Cliff em all" there is a part in there where they actually tell the people at there show to tape it from a friend if they cant afford to buy it!! I never would have become a fan if not for my recorded copys of the early music as a teeen. isnt it a shame that music has to take a back seat to greed??

well we are getting a bit off topic now, but there point then was that if you listen to it and copy it from your friend eventually you would buy it, and i think they were right. I wore out cpyed tapes of everything from killem all to "justice"  now i own EVERY metallica CD through the black album, and not just the main stream stuff i have a few very limited production cds includeing one that was recorded in 1982 with the bass player they had before Cliff. they realised then that if they had enough fans they would sell alot of records..now they think everybody is a fan and so they dont nead that viewpoint anymore..i will never own another metallica Cd recorded after 1990.

Im not saying its ok to just download something and never buy it, but i do believe in downloading somebodys music so i can hear what the songs on he CD sound like that i dont hear on the radio. if its good i buy it , if it sucks i delete it

When the bands are starting out they do anything to get the music heard free of not & this is when they most NEED the $$ , a few short years later they sue the same people good Irony

If someone started stealing my livelyhood. old friend or not I'd sue them too. or worse

Giving away free samples is common in business. We've all had the free samples at the grocery store. just because the lady there gave me a free taste of something , doesn't give me the right to go steal that something. does it?

Wouldn't it seem strange to get mad at the store for suing the thief?

Napster and the people that persisted for over a year in copying the music, after the music industry asked them to stop. are the bad guys. not Metallica.

Exactly.

As someone who fancies themself as a bit of a musican I am glad someone as big Metallca took a stand agianst file sharing. There is a huge trickle down effect here and I think Lars & Metallica saw that, let's face it..... are you gonna buy a whole CD for $14.95 from an artist that you only kinda like one or two if their songs, or are you gonna go home and download if for free? I think the latter more often than not.

It may not be taking food out of the mouths of bands like Metallica or The Beatles, but there are many smaller musicans out there who are having their livelyhood taken away from them due to this sort of thing.

I also find it very funny how people give Metallica all this crap for "selling out" because they've made a few commercially viable records. I'm sorry.... I must've missed something, but I thought the idea was to make music that people like and hopefully make good money doing it. Do what you love and get rich? Hell, that's the american dream, and you're gonna stand there and tell me you'ld turn the money away on principle? I don't think so......

As for the past couple Metallica albums, I'll agree that I wasn't really into some of them (St. Anger for one) at first, but after having them sit on the shelf and going back to them, there is some great stuff there..... Load is likely my favorite album and has been for the past few years. No, it's not Kill 'Em All, but it isn't meant to be either......you have to open your mind up to these albums and the band. Newsflash, it isn't 1986, Fleming Rasmussen isn't their producer and if you put out Ride The Lightning every time, it gets a little boring. People change, bands change.... it's called growth, deal with it like the rest of us.

Personally, I'd love to be in Metallica's shoes right now, being sucessful enough to put out the material you want and not having to worry about having to appeal to a certian market enough to sell X number of albums.

My $.02

I don't have "The Videos' DVD yet, is it any good? What's on there besides videos? I dig extra features.....
