i have a 73 400 hp that is complete but does not run. it has the hp exhaust

AKcharger

$100-250 would be my guess. Remember who ever buys it is still gambeling the block is good and cylinders are OK. area your in will drive price a lot. Actally I'd e-bay the manifolds and sell the engine..you'd make more

I would say that is a fair estimate, I have a 400/727 with a 4barrell stock exhaust, I would like to get $300 for but would take $250 to get it out of my way.  If you can get $250 for the 400 I would grab it.

matters on where you are... I can pick up 400 blocks here for $75-$150.00

400HP equates to a different camshaft only, so there is no "real" difference than a 2bbl 400. Take that into consideration.

You checked the year,
Did you check the block casting number ?  Are the last "3" digits 2 3 0 ?    I've seen some 230 blocks that made it to 73.

Those Blocks by themselves are extremely rare, and highly sought after. Big Bucks !
Solid mainweb blocks, go to 440source.com and read up about them.
Only wimps wear Bowties !

its not the 230 casting number, its the date in which the 400 block was cast.  the dates of july 71- nov 71 are the desirable 400 blocks.  there are other 230 castings, but not with the thick main webs.

If the factory HP exhaust manifolds are from a B-body, they are worth more than the engine itself, IMO.  (They will interchange to a 440).

*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."
