Hello...I have a couple of questions... I have four Chargers: 1969-70-71 R/T's  and 1972 Rallye. All have stock 440+4bbl
magnum engines. The 1969 and 1972 Dodge Service Manuals state that 5 quarts (with filter change) is the correct amount to fill when changing engine oil. The 1970 and 1971 Service Manuals state the 7 quarts(with filter change)
is the correct amount. Since they are all 440+4 engines, shouldn't the amount of engine oil be consistent each year?
When the 1969 Charger 440 is filled with 5 quarts, the dipstick reads 1 quart low. Why the discrepancies?
thanks!!

They may have different capacity oil pans..  Do yourself a favor and change your own oil. This way you can put in 5 qts. and check the stick after you run it. If it needs more add it and write down how much each one takes.

70 and 71 take the 6 quart "HEMI" pan stock from the factory.
The 69 should take the 4 quart "402" pan stock but it was either changed or the dipstick is incorrect.

Just to add to the posts above :

There was also another pan available that held 5 qts in the sump. The stamp # on that pan is 971 and it fits all b-body chassis with big block engines. If any of these cars has a 971 pan then a complete oil change with filter would take 6 qts.
