They work best if it's installed in a car.   :yesnod:

I was gonna switch it out for a 4-speed manual but I was wondering if the 727 was better or faster. :-\

I have two Chargers, one an auto and one a 4 speed. For drag racing, I'd probably go with the auto with a higher stall converter and a shift kit. They're generally more consistent off the line. While a 4 speed if funner to slam thru the gears, they're harder to launch consistently and if you miss a shift, you could damage your engine.  The 727 is a bulletproof transmission.

the 727 came with the 400ci 4 barrel and the guy that I bought it from said that it was bored .40 over and the transmission had a new torque converter.I bought the car for $500 and a few months later I bought the engine for a six pack because someone stole the carb off of it.

Thanks :icon_smile_cool:

i'll take a 727 over most NEW transmissions....
Daddy ran whiskey in a big black dodge
bought it at an auction at the masons lodge,
Johnson County Sherriff painted on the side,
just shot a coat of primer then he looked inside,
well him and my uncle tore that engine down,
I still remember that rumblin' sound.....

The 727 was probably the best Auto Tranny made.

:iagree: built properly they will take a lot of abuse. Even a stock 727 is hard to grenade !
