I was thinking what would be cool parts to have custom cnc'd for Charger? They'll be out of billet aluminum, very lightweight, custom, possibly anodized and of course custom laser engraved

When you think of some, let me know.  I have a few of my own that I will be tinkering with.  I'm helping a friend of mine start his CNC business.   Here is his link to his web page.  http://www.tuff-tek.com/  He's starting with custom billet pick-up bed rails that have whatever you want on them and they are functional tie-downs.  We have some other custom items in mind.  The web page is just being created so there aren't any pictures yet, but come early January, we should have our equipment in and we'll then post some pics.

I have a great one for you. 1965 Coronet 500 tail panel. They were on one car, one year and only on the 500 model.  One guy makes it now and he gets a fortune for it. His is cast...

What makes you think I have the only 65' Coronet 500??  Hell, I have 2 of them. I can show you a place in Arizona where another guy I know has at least 7 right now.  He just paid $1800.00 for an OEM tailpanel with a small dent in it...

hmm...that would be nice to do. Not sure how hard it would be to do large piece like that though

If it's a programmable machine and you know how to measure and set it up, it should be easy. Really depends on the size of the bed..

I have access to a CNC mill and lathe as well as a titanium laser deposition machine and a rapid prototyper.  The laser deposition uses titanium powder and basically makes a hollow casting (or solid as the case may be).  You can make really complicated designs with it.  The rapid prototyper makes a model of a part (on a smaller scale) out of plastic using your design.  I've got a differential made out of one solid chunk of plastic and it works!  You can't take it apart and it was made from one piece.  These are really neat machines.  All you need to do is make a 3D model in a program and convert it to CAD.  I've been in on making lots of stuff, including uprights for a car.  It's kinda boring to watch actually.  You have to stand there but you don't do anything.  You just make sure it's all running smoothly.
When I was just a very young lad I looked up and told my dad, a bareback rider's what I wanna be.  I want the whole world to know about me.  In the rodeo arena I'll make my stand.  I wanna be a rodeo man.  I'll come flyin' from the chute with my spurs up high, chaps and boots reachin' for the sky.  Spurin' wild with my head throwed back, you'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.  You'll ask 'Who's that,' well that's Bareback Jack.

Sounds cool to me.. Why aren't you making all these parts and making yourself a very rich man at the same time???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I wish my father in law was a younger man. He is not afraid to spend money on machines anymore. Just getting too old to learn how to run them..   He's kind of an old dog that like it the way it is.. Nothing new for him..

I would like to make that part out of stainless. High grade stainless..

About 2 years ago I saw one go for over $700.00.. I nearly had to change my shorts..   :rotz:

Someone was SUPPOSED to be repoping them more than a year ago. I have not seen them yet.

I have access to a large assortment of manufacturing processes and have worked with custom jobs in the past. If someone can provide me with a decent picture of what you want made, and rough estimate on size, I would be happy to provide you all with a price quote on this job.

Thanks

I have been looking for aftermarket dash bezels for a while now for my 2nd gen rallye dash.  Custom cut bezels, radio center pieces and above the glove box would be money.  I haven't come across anyone that does these yet and have been playing with sheet metal and crinkle paints to make my own.  But aluminum... that would be the ticket!

Steve P.

IM Troy on the dash bezels. I can't remember the name of the outfit we saw at the Garlits show, but I'll bet Troy will.

Yes Mike, that's the manufacturer but not the dealer we met. Steve, I think scottmiller is referring to custom (aluminum with a different gauge layout) bezels and not reproductions. I can think of a ton of CNC parts that I'd like to have at some point but it all comes down to money. Maybe if I got rid of a project... or two... or three...

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Custom is what I was thinking.  I am buying a set of autometer gauges and want to get the dash (amongst other things) all setup while the chasis is stuck in the body shop.  I thought about rebuilding the factory gauge set but decided that money would be better spent elsewhere right now.  Down the road, who knows.

BTW.  I am new to the forum... came across it while doing GOOGLE searches.  My 69 charger is the first car I ever bought.  I have held onto it all these years and am now finally restoring it.  It should be a fun build because it will be an R/T clone so I don't feel too bad about not going with factory original on everything in the car.

Charger_Fan

Welcome to the site, then! If you feel the burning urge to post pics of your Charger, I'm sure nobody here will be against that. ;D

Here's some different instrument panel pics I've collected from some of our member's posts. They're not extremely "custom", but they're different & I thought might be something you'd be interested in seeing.

This one has a volt gauge, instead of an amp gauge.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Here she is before the gutting started a month ago.  The restore will go for a factory color paint job and stripe.  I am going A4 silver, black R/T stripe, black vinyl top.  It is a very solid car to start with (typical mudded up rear quarter panels from the late 80's when I acquired the car) but still looks good.  It has the original solid trunk and floorboards.  Sitting in a shed for a dozen years or so under a car cover preserves things well.

I should have the gutting complete in the next couple of weeks (I started at the back of the car forward and am now in the engine compartment, drive train this weekend)... then it is off to the body shop.  I am delivering them a rolling shell with brakes and steering still in it.  They will drop the front/rear out of her and put it on the rotisserie.  A year and a cleaned bank account from now, I should bring her back home to begin piecing the puzzle back together.

nice Charger Scott Miller... welcome!

i'd like to see new dash facias made out of different materials too...
i dont care for the white guage faces myself...
but im currently hatching plans for my dash rebuild for the charger...
