This car has been on eBay before, but it wasn't through Tim L. & the guys in MN.  The last time the car was up for auction it was being sold through Restorations by Julius and it had a 426 Hemi engine in it.  That was just back in August of 2006 (3 months ago?).

Here is the link to the earlier auction:

I've got a side note here.

Chris, you say that Julius pulled a HEMI out of the Daytona with a VIN of XS29J9B142557 right? That would be a HEMI out of a Charger 500. Just to let you know. I don't have any other information on the car. And I can't say 100% that its a HEMI 500, but the number before that are 500's as well as the 6 directly after that VIN. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that its from a HEMI 500.

You should recognize that one, Dave...  That's Ted Janak's old car, 410770, currently owned by Tim L. up in MN (the guys with two Daytonas and two 'Birds for sale last I heard).  It has been peddled a lot here recently though - eBay in March of 2006, LasVegas MATS in '06, listed twice on eBay in April of '06, at Carlisle in July, and listed on Cars-On_Line after that.

Janaks daytona is XX29L9B410793 .I lived near it rode in the car and wanted right up tilll he sold it $35K Last I heard of it it went to the Bauers in WI.The car was very nice and original had a warranty replacement motor and had lower sill mouldings

The car you posted the Carlisle pictures from is definitely 410770, since the CA license plate gives the car's identity away.  That car came up in this thread back in March:

http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,11089.0.html

In that thread, you made specific reference to Janak being the only one you knew of that owned a V2 car with sill mouldings.

The only daytona I recall that was orange and had rocker moulding .Is from Ted in TX who bought one in 73

http://wwnboa.org/bauermopars.htm

Our second Mopar is a 1969 Charger Daytona. It is V2 Hemi orange, 440 automatic with 64,000 miles. [Note the Daytona has lower sill mouldings--a very rare option.] We bought this car from Ted Janak in Texas in February 1997. It was Ted's own personal car that he bought from the original owner in 1973.

As a result, I had made a note on my spreadsheet that the car was Ted's old car - and that's why I mentioned it again.  I'm sure you are correct about which car was Ted's, I only mentioned it because of your comment earlier this year.

It is interesting that the fender tag information you have for Ted's car does not mention M25 sill mouldings.  Guess he added those??

69_500

I don't recall very many Daytona's with sill mouldings at all. Then again i never thought there were so many of the 500's that had them until I put the info into a spreadsheet.

nascarxx29

I knew his car had the mouldings when I first met Ted and seen the 410793 car.Think maybe they were even on there when he got it.But not sure.I had to look for my fender tag info on Teds car.I was going all over this car wanting to buy it.Your right it doesnt show M25 on the fender tag. What do you make from my info found on the engine pad.Didnt show E for 69 or HP had other codes WT 1-22.I think when I looked under the nose the openings seemed smaller to me for some reason. The other car you said was 410770.I looked it over at carlisle and it showed evidence as a california daytona. The special air cleaner and non exhaust tips car.And with exceptions to this rule 410 cars tend be be califorina cars

Dave, I'm sure you knew Ted's car well, which is exactly why I made that connection in the first place.  I guess none of us understood that the M25 mouldings weren't stock - especially in light of the Bauer's comments you had found from wwnboa.com.

You never stated that 410770 car was Ted's - I'm the one that assumed that, since there are so few cars with those mouldings and it seemed logical.  At least now I have another fender tag to enter into my spreadsheet!   :P

On the engine block stamping...  Warranty blocks usually did not have an engine year series (e.g. "E" for 1969), since many times they were cast and assembled a year or more after the car's original engine was built.  They were often Water Tested - which is what the "WT" usually denotes.  "1 22" would probably be the assembly date of the shortblock or longblock assembly, but without seeing the whole stamp I'd hate to draw any conclusions from that.  My Daytona's warranty replacement block was cast in June of 1973 and installed in the car sometime in late summer or that fall.  It has no stampings on the ID or VIN pad whatsoever.  If I had the paperwork from the dealership that did the warranty work, that would be the next best thing to a numbers-matching motor when the original block is gone.  Could be that Ted (& the Bauers) have the paperwork for his engine swap, which would be fantastic documentation for their car.

nascarxx29

Those numbers were the ones .I wrote down from the pad didnt recall any others than WT 1-22.I even wrote down the carb number.Which I assumed if the flipped blocks they used the original factory 69 issued parts for the change over. carb number was something like C44065A is what I wrote down .As should had been 4617 MT 4618 AT.And the distributor that was in it .Had the 70 type retard solenoid

I've personally often wondered how many HEMI Daytona's they really made. The shipment list shows 70 doesn't it? I've only heard of either 29 or 30 that are actually acounted for though.
