What is Missing From this Daytona?

Just looking through Fall 2006 Hotrod Archive Series. Something is missing. Do you know what it is?

The emblem is there bad picture angle.What we seem to see obviously missing is the hood pin cables.None what so ever can be seen .The hood pin bezel there and hood pin but no cables of any type.That are secured to the hood pin bezel are there

That old photo looks like it's the same photo shoot as the one in Auto Driver, or Auto Topics, just shot from the other side.  I recognize the white stripe down the road.  Anyone have a copy of that to post?

Over the years I've noticed a few Daytona's that were without the cables. Then again you also see those who attach their cables to the wrong spots too.

Doug,  What a memory!   

Gotta be the same car - the license plate number is the same, and it has the G31 Passenger's Rear View Mirror (not a real common option).  Can't see the picture well enough to know about the hood pin cables, but it is definitely the same car.

Thank Hemi Geno Its in my magazine collection.Another oddity I have this road test 1969 magazine with a new 69 daytona in it has a lime green duster on the cover pictured below .Shows a underhood shot of engine compartment with the latchtray shown in same picture. I recall it shows the daytona with a 22 inch radiiator

yeah i remember that article  on that daytona with the 22" radiator , it was F5 i think with a white stripe .  different looking brake booster also , if i remember correctly

Found the bendix booster decal saying bendix on it behind the master cylinder.Not to be confused with the found alum tag on the mounting bolt or cap hold down. And dates in writings on this e body something you dont see on a regular basis.Battery is written on .And the metal bracket on valve cover near batt cable? brake booster remarks 11-5-69

thats definitely  unusual  & date being hand written on the  booster  . yeah i agree (nascarxx29)  intresting stuff looking at old original road test pictures / press release pitcures ,  who knows what Chrysler  got up to  , there has been a few oddities like that , one that springs to mine  is  the first built  hemi cuda convertable  auto , built with out  the separate trans cooler .   going back to the 22" radiator daytona ,  i wonder if it still exists ,  vin # ? , it might of even been converted to 26 " sometime after it was sold

Good ? I rememeber the other cars in the background had La Hambra dodge license plate frames on them.Where that car is today who knows,I got cars mag green daytona with power windows in a road test .Not sure whos car they used for that shoot

Just had this conversation with Danny (69500) last night.  I wasn't sure if there was actually any Daytonas built with the 22" rad, but apparently there was at least one.  All of the cars I have in my database with fender tag info have 26" on the tag, but I only have less than a hundred tags so far.

I dug around and found some paperwork related to this subject, which stated that it was "recommended" that the A32 (4.10 Dana) or A36 (3.55 8-3/4") axle packages be added for automatic cars.  Based on other research we've done on this site, selection of either of those axle packages on 440 cars with an automatic trans (also if a 4-speed trans was spec'd) would have mandated the use of a 26" radiator.  I have seen nothing that required the installation of the Maximum Cooling or Medium Cooling packages on the Daytonas, even though the earliest paperwork I have identified the cooling system as one of the two major concerns they had when developing the car's design.

The likelihood is, then, that a non-axle package 440/727 car would have been built at Hamtramck with a 22" radiator core support.  There might be more than just one of them around, as the axle package was only "recommended".  Superbirds, on the other hand, were required to have a 3.55 or numerically higher gearing and as such would have had the 26" radiator.

If the owner of that F5 car changed the core support out to a 26" assuming it was not correct, it would be a shame.  That would be a unique car, even if you'd run the risk of overheating at every stoplight...

Very interesting read.... I would have assumed that all Daytonas would have required a 26" for cooling purposes.......... That's cool to know 22's are a possibility...

Its one of this chryslers things I guess .like we assume the Jan 70 motor trend car Dan Gurney sitting on a superbird wing.Turns out he was cut and pasted from this daytona

                          just a thought , isn't there a list of dealers that  daytona's were shipped to ?  i wonder if it shows  that dodge dealer ,
                      unusual  that  the 22" radiator  daytona & the playboy daytona  was originally missing the fender scoops  are both the same color

Yes there is a list of daytona shipments.Which contains job number vin number dealer name and dealer number and location.but dealers traded cars with other dealers in some cases

Quite a few of them traded cars here in Indiana that I'm aware of anyways.
