windshield install

just got my new windshield gasket from Y1 today and was wondering if I need any type of sealer or caulk before I put the gasket on the car. I did one on my 70 years ago and cant remember if I used anything (never leaked though) I know I used a urethane window sealer for the rear but didn't notice any on the windshield except for some black sticky stuff on the stainless trim.

you use sealent on the gasket to the window channel. I dont think any sealent was called for on the glass it self.
