Hi. Looking for more help. Did the C500's have grills over the rear speakers or just the slots cut in the rear package tray? Thanks, Carl

Ghoste

I don't think any of the Mopar B-bodies had an actual separate grille over the rear speakers in the late 60's.  Just the slots in the package tray to my knowledge.

The 500's and Daytona's had a weird holes drilled in the package tray over the rear speaker. It was a diamond shape, of I believe 9 holes? I have a diagram around here somewhere showing where the holes are. But also note that these holes were drilled at Creative and don't all match up with the drawing. Then again some of the cars with rear speakers didn't ever get the holes either.

WINGMAN

My 69 500 did not have rear speakers but it has rear defrost, has eight 1/2 inch holes in a diamond shape. :icon_smile_cool:  Jay.

Really, so it has the holes but no speaker. Is there the actual deforster slit too?

WINGMAN

Yes it has the slit, it is the same defroster that comes on a regular 69 Charger. But only cleans the upper part of the back glass, The car was sold new in Medford   Oregon ( A cooler part of the country )

I was wondering if the slit was in the same spot, or if they moved it closer to the window. I guess they left it alone, and figured it might work. Actually I think that your car is the only one that I have listed as having a rear window defroster for sure.

WINGMAN

Yes it is in the same spot as standard 69s ,Danny so you think out of the 230 500 you have info on that mine is the only one with rear defrost.  One of one-  wow maybe Mopar collectors guide will put it on the cover LOL  :icon_smile_big:  But i still think it is kind of neat.

Well yours is the only one of two that I know for sure that has a rear window defroster. I had read somewhere at one time that there was 14 with rear window defrosters. I went back through the numbers today, and seen 1 more that had the H31 option. Which would be a green HEMI 500, that is still owned by the origional owner.

Was H31 ever listed on a fender tag? Because I don't have it checked off on your car Jay, but I do have a side note that it has the defroster. Where as the HEMI 500 I have a copy of the broadcast sheet, so I got that info for that car from that.

Another update, just got off the phone with another 500 owner, who has a car with a rear window defroster.

So that makes 3 that I know of now. Ah now they are growing on tree's.

WINGMAN

Well Danny i went out to look at the fender tag and do not find it coded on there but i am 100% sure it was built with rear refroster, i have not found the broadcast sheet yet but i have plans for the car in 07 to give it a new headliner and put the black 500 stripe back on it. I do not want to mess with the car to much as it is unrestord and still looks pretty good. I have not driven the car in a year but i pull it out of the garage every so often to run the 440 and wash off the dust.

I didn't recall ever seeing H31 on a fender tag, even on a base charger. But I could be wrong. The only place I had seen the listing for H31 was a broadcast sheet. That is just my observation so far though.

I know my dad's Daytona had a rear window defroster and it wasn't coded on the fender tag. My sunroof Charger didn't have the H31 on the fender tag but did have the defroster.

If I'm not mistaken doesn't your 500 still wear its origional paint? I remember you posting a photo of it missing the stripe, but I was wondering why they removed the stripe if it was still wearing the origional paint. Were they trying to make it a sleeper car without any outside tags identifying it?

WINGMAN

Danny from what i know about the cars history it was sold new by Dodge center car co in Medford OR, Then it went to southern CA and was owned by a l santuchey who got in trouble with the law and went to mexico according to GG, I herd he was a big car collector and his wife sold off his cars. the 500 must have spent some time in the desert as when i took of the door panels to change the locks i found silt all over the insides that is also why it needs a new headliner. I think the stripe just cracked bad and at some point it was removed but i know it was balck as i found part of it inside of the trunk lip. The car went to south Carolina and was owned by a G  Garren also a big car collector who advertised it in Hemmines in 96. I met Mr Garren in nashville and bought it in a KFC parking lot and drove it home. I dont think i will find the broadecast sheet so if anyone out there runs across one for 156002 please let my know.

Just 6T9 CHGR

H31 would not be on any Charger tag....only on the broadcast sheet

I see, well thanks for clearing that up for me Chris. I don't spend too much time looking at that tag information I have other than for the 500's and Daytona's.

So your car was a black stripe car huh. :) Wonder how they got a ownership history and figure that someone skipped the country for Mexico. Sounds to me like if GG knows the person went to Mexico so would the police or whoever it is that he was running from. Thats just my thoughts on it.

Still a gorgeous car though. One of these days I'll make it out your way to check it out personally.
