I was told that the Dana 60 came out of a B-body, had 4.56 gears ( I would plan to change back to 3.54 gears), unknown as to suregrip, and included brake setup on both sides as well as axles.  I would assume that it would need rebuilding.  If it is in good condtion, what is the general average that these units are going for?

If it is a true car Dana 60 with pinion snubber, prices can vary by year, as they came in 3 different widths:

Typical "asking prices" (May have come down some, as they are available aftermarket now around $1800 brand new)

66-67 $1000-$1300

68-70 $1200-$1500

71-72 $1500+

Check to see if the brake cable is cut, and if the pinion snubber is still present.  In my opinion the 4.56 gears hurt it's value, as most guys wanting an original Dana 60 for a resto aren't looking to drag race.  Typical drag racer will cut a 3/4 ton truck Dana 60 and add 8-3/4 pieces to it for less than $1000.

Just my 2 cents, others opinion will vary.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

As HOUND said, make sure its not out of a truck, has the cast area for the pinion snubber and check the measurements from flange to flange and C/L of perch to perch to make sure what car it actually came from. Good luck.

Can this BE DONE???  HOW is it done, use the tube ends of the 8 3/4 and use all the backing plates etc of the 8 3/4??  Does this work well??  Has anyone done it and have pics??  THis sounds like it is up my alley here.... Thanks, Remy
